Re: Will we see more TSR Classics instead of Judge's Guild?
I'm a fan of classic and Necromancer Games era Judges Guild, but I will still admit that most of their output was garbage or mediocre. Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia deserve the OAR treatment though, they are timeless classics well worth having on your shelves.

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?
I like my elves as melnibonéans - a decadent arcane race long past its glory looking for entertainment in cruelty and hedonism before finally swept away by the young barbaric races. I like that. How does that approach impact the party dynamic in a mixed group? I can't recall having any elves ever i...

Re: Prioritizing DCC Purchases
My usualy recommendation is "get the core book and a few Goodman Games modules that seem fun based on the cover". Seriously, the core book is the only thing that's essential. Start small, enjoy the game, and buy later whatever seems fun. That's part of DCC's charm.

Re: Default DCC setting?
I don't see either what's so condescending about Judge Paul's post. As for Áereth, Goodman Games did create a boxed set during the d20 boom, but that no longer shows their current vision of the world. There have ben a few bigger adventures for Áereth (Chained Coffin, Journey to the Center of Áereth)...

I would love to see a proper Aereth boxed set before they tackle any other settings. But if I had to choose from Appendix N, then Elric's Young Kingdoms.

Re: "Can I roll a perception check?"
Your players shouldn't ask for checks. They should tell you what they do, then you devide if they have to roll any kind of check. As for sneaking foes and other stuff, I roll that in secret. Have all your players' Luck values among your notes. It will come handy in other situations too (eg. if there...

Re: Random encounters?
I usually roll a d6 every turn or hex. By default 6 means there is an encounter, but in more populated or dangerous areas 5-6, or even 4-6 might yield a roll on the random encounter tables. I was considering writing up encounter tables that merge the frequency and the random encounter entries in a s...

Doesn’t that only leave “run” as the only option? Only if they are unimaginative. Luring enemies into traps, trying to persuade them with food or treasure, drawing a bigger monster upon to them, setting stuff on fire around them, flooding them with water, collapsing the ceiling, using a disguise to...

That's pretty much the point of it. Players learn to not rely on stats and use out of box thinking because of it. It deconstructs the usual modern D&D mindset quickly.Ozerulz wrote: Generally the characters end up dead with any contact at all.

Re: New player - Withdrawal question
Getting an attack against someone who flees is and old-school rule, and nowhere as needlessly complicated as AoO. To begin with, you get AoO against someone leaving threatened squares or doing certain actions in them - and each frickin action has it mentioned in its description if it allows an AoO f...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!
Well, maybe not quite that long… but man, this is a BIG book. I mean, seriously, I was expecting something about as fat as the old AD&D (1E) DM's Guide. This monster is bigger than my town's phone book. You could use it for home defense, and beat somebody to death with it. It might be a big boo...

Re: Enlarge is OP, tell me why not!!!
Nothing is overpowered in DCC RPG, but everything is badass. Every class has some really cool stuff to play with, while also being fragile. The warrior's Mighty Deeds of Arms, the thief's luck burning, the clerics ridiculous healing ability, the wizard's spells all can have over the top results even...

Don't overdo it, and then it won't be that daunting. Leave out details that likely won't come up during play or can be improvised. As for art and maps, unless you are planning to publish it, don't sweat it. Make your map in Hexographer or Dungeon Painter Studio, and you are good to go. Heck, most of...

I want to give my players a taste of playing DCC but with the familiarity and structure of a 5e style module plus some added dcc weirdness of my own making. What's the point of that? Tell them straight they are going to play DCC, tell them how it's different, and if they are still okay with it, run...

Re: Patron Necessity?
Wizards don't require patrons, they can learn magic from dusty grimoires, moldy scrolls, etc... It would be a dick move if they needed one, since not all wizards start with the Invoke Patron spell.
