Re: Hit points: What are they?

I'm all for hit points healing at a rate faster than 1/day. I think ability damage makes a better model than hit points for long term wounds, and ability damage already heals slowly at 1/day. I like meinvt 's idea of 10% back, or 25% back for a full day of rest. I'd even go for 50% back of hit point...

Re: The Spell-Crypts of Thurfang Bormaug

A lively read. I'm happy to hear a report on how quick combat can be. That helps me think about adventure design. I think I will need to concentrate on building a sense of place and time and a strong atmosphere. Since combats are so quick, I think DCC will be (and needs to be) more about the adventu...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons

The -4 penalty is too harsh. There are enough penalties already for using a two handed weapon. You do 1 point extra damage and lose either the ability to make an off hand attack or the benefit of a shield. Either is much more effective than one measly point of damage, a -4 to initiative makes two h...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

Part of the point of my No Skills thread is involved here. I'd prefer the class die solution and get rid of the table if possible. Thieves should just be good at ability checks involving actions conducive to crime. PERIOD. The Judge then can determine if sneaking past a guard or making a disguise o...

Re: 3d6, in order

3d6 roll in order sounds good to me to start. I think it will be great fun with the character funnel. I want to play test DCC before considering any different generation method, and I haven't had a chance to run it yet. I think the players will accept it if they are running 0-level peons, and take i...

Re: Birth Augur and Lucky Roll

I also like tovokas 's idea and reasoning. I think luck is well done in the number of things it modifes, from corruption to crits. Why not let the Birth Augur just be a small bit of luck or skill for the character, and then not have to fuss with it thereafter. Halflings and Thieves especially will b...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]

I'm in favour of getting rid of spell level Remember that spell level does serve a purpose -- it puts spells into piles so that young wizards can't try the hardest spells right away. Magic Missile is cool, but it loses some of the pizzazz once you can cast Fireball. Without spell levels, wizards co...

Re: Weapon Training (Page 16)

Why not scrap the -4 penalty altogether, for 0-levels and for classed characters? Just have untrained weapons do a reduced damage die and use a worse crit table. That way if anybody wants to hit someone over the head with a chair or fence with a fireplace poker or try to backstab the king in the gar...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all

I think it comes down to what TPTB want "level" to mean. I'd personally prefer it to mean that a fourth level thief works well with a fourth level wizard that works well with a warrior that works well with a fourth level cleric; and that when I pick up a module that is for fourth level cha...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

Add another vote to losing the % based skill rolls. And I also was wondering why so many thief skills? It seems that thieves don't get to pick them, the chance is assigned by alignment, and hide and move silently are either the same, or 5% different, and the same goes for finding traps and disabling...

Re: How has you attitude toward DCCRPG changed since June 7?

I have to say I am impressed. Many of my concerns have fallen by the wayside. There are still some rough edges and things I'll never get one of my friends to accept. Oh yeah, many of my concerns have abated, particularly my concern that this game would be Dungeon Charts Consulting. The number of ch...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?

Just so everyone knows, Gamestation.net has "Zocchi Pack" inked dice sets available. They're collections of D3's, D5's, D14's, D16's and D24's. You still need to get the D7's and D30's separately, but there you go. They might have always had these, but I just found them a little while ago...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Are you sure none of these are very powerful? Yes, but only in a limited sphere- in combat -compare this to wizards being able to invoke patrons - and at higher levels -launch magic missiles through a crystal ball, and I think there needs to be that probability of warrior's (as level increases) pul...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?

Once upon a time-- long, long ago-- I was dming a game where the players tracked some hobgoblin raiders to their camp. It was a tough fight, but the party had a mondo fighter who could absorb damage and dish it out, and he could hit the hobgoblins on a 9 or higher. He hit the first round, wounding o...

Re: Grappling in DCC?

I do wish there was a "scale" for the effect of an MDoA, though. With sample ideas of what type of roll could get what type of result. Something like.... 3: Stop an opponent from disengaging in combat, give an opponent -1 to their next attack, disengage from opponent and move 10' 5: Trip ...

Now with the release of the DCC RPG I have the opportunity and excuse to pick up what promises to be my kind of game, great old school feel with original mechanics. Great map by Doug Kovacs. Art and style and function all rolled into one.

I can see giving the players a map. A partial map. An ancient, outdated map. The fun for everyone would be discovering what has changed over the centuries and the things that never made it on the map in the first place.

Infravision - looking forward to all the old arguments we had back in the 80s with this. Re: Going back to the "classic" DCC module look...?

In DCC RPG, the stat blocks are usually 2-3 lines long and there aren't that many of them; Excellent. Makes me want to check out DCC modules for this reason alone. Those 3e and 4e wall-o-text stat blocks are so offputting, I don't think I own any modules at all based on those systems. I loved how e...
