DCC Experimentation in Minneapolis... 12/26-27

Playtesting a new idea for DCC setting/rules this weekend (Saturday or Sunday).. yes... it's sort of the AntiChristmas. which makes me.. well, anyway.

If you are local to Minneapolis, home of Dave Arneson (almost), and interested in dropping some funky dice, please drop me a line.

Re: DCC RPG 4th printing: What do you want?

So many ideas above, plenty of them below and a great many have yet to be thought of... here's a few: 1) A special cover honoring the Minneapolis DCC RPG Society! With a giant looming Arneson in the background against a Mpls skyline.., no one will ever doubt again the impact of Minneapolis's special...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

... I don't know which camp your players fall into, but it's kind of a pity if they never get to experience that old style of game and find enjoyment in it. That's not to say that a judge should unfairly chew players up and spit them out (superior play should provide a pathway for success) but for ...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

Personally, I remember (with fondness) the meat-grinder approach in early D&D and AD&D 1st edition, where death was common. The fact that players get any chance at all to cheat death in DCC RPG; with a chance that is maybe hovering around 50% (assuming an average Luck roll of 9 or 10) seems...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

This method would allow one to postpone suffering the effects of burnt luck until the new step (5). I.e. you burn you luck, your luck score remains temporarily unaffected, and only after having benefitted from this burnt luck does the point burn actually kick in. The first method doesn't make much ...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

I run recover the body rolls as an unmodified roll against current Luck at time of death. So if you burned yourself down to a current Luck of 3, then you gotta roll 3 or less on a D20 to be recovered. My players love it as it makes them choose how brave or cowardly they run their guys. Also my play...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

The way I have understood it and applied it is: Taking the same example you give above, the bonus subtracts from your die roll, just as you say. Thus a character with a Luck score of 10, can roll even up to a 16, and his "bonus" will subtract 6 from his roll (16-6 = 10) so that his modifi...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

Here's the text for "Luck Check" on p. 19 Characters can make Luck checks to attempt feats that succeed based on Luck alone. The judge will provide the specifics of any attempt, but the attempt is usually resolved by rolling equal to or less than the character’s Luck score on 1d20. Let's ...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death

Hello all, Been running my DCC game since December and on Session 13, coming up. Having a great time. One situation has arisen that gives me pause. As we all know, Luck can be burned to give a character a chance to alter a life-or-death roll. I assume this would include the "roll-the-body"...

Re: Minneapolis / Twin Cities (Minnesota) DCC Game?

Hi all, I've run multiple DCC RPG sessions this year and I'd like to GM a game in late November (for starters) I generally run on weekends to ensure we have enough time (4-5 hours) for a good session. I live in Uptown Minneapolis and have a few players already but would love to pick up some guys spe...

Re: Sailors of the Starless TPK...

Well, we played it. We had 4 survivors out of 16. And that was with them skipping some encounters  First time: 6/20 survived.. (started as 16 0-levels but they picked up some prisoners and what-not). Second time: Close to having 1-2 survivors at the end, but ultimately a TPK after ...

Re: Spoilers:Sailors on the Starless Sea...anyone played it

Hi all, thought I'd share my double run of SotSS. Ran it twice in one week for two different groups. All of them were new to DCC RPG except for 1 guy in the first group had done the two playtest modules during the Beta phase. Team A (four players, each starting with 4 characters) (you may get the So...

I don't expect to see a copy in Los Angeles for a while. I'm in Minneapolis, dammit!! It's printed in Anoka?!? Did Michelle Bachmann steal my Ltd Edition DCC RPG!?!?? It had to go like, 5 miles! I'm with ya brother! Bachmann or Ziggy Wilf.... They shall build a new Vikings stadium out of DCC RPGs.....

Re: The pre-order shipments have left the printer!

I got them both in today's mail at my post office (I pre-ordered both a standard copy and a gold cover copy)! The return label on the box says Goodman Games, Santa Clara, CA but the US postage paid label says Anoka, MN. Yay! Hey-- I'm in Minneapolis!! If they're printed in Anoka, I should get mine ...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG

Julian here in Minneapolis. I am eager to GM or play as a playtester. GG folks, feel free to hook me up and I'll be happy to run some sessions and provide feedback.

I'll also be attending GENCON and would be interested in GMing or playing in a playtest event off-grid if GG wants to encourage that.
