Re: Just reading through the rules and I am loving the DCC R
Would there be in that section info on dwarven clerics, thieves and wizards (etc)?? Not in the base book. I believe they're leaving them out for 3PP or the players to houserule for their own game. So, the "racial classes" are a houserule waiting to happen. The key is, you'd want to make a...

Re: BETA: What has been learned?
I agree that DC's shouldn't creep up just because the party's level does, but as the adventurers get better at what they do, they tackle riskier 'jobs' - it's human (and demihuman) nature! Part of it is narration--at level 1 the players climb the ruined moathouse or scale up the hill. At level 10, ...

Re: Halflings & 2 weapons
What would you do to make Halflings interesting instead? Is there a need for Halflings in DCC? I know they made their way into D&D because of the players love of Tolkien, but that seems a poor reason to include them in the base game. If they're going to be there, they should at least reflect th...

I also have my still-pristine copy of Night Below complete in it's box. It may be old, but I still have every map and even the box itself is still in great shape! Damn you Ogrepuppy. Re: Beta Testing Questions from my group.
I'm going to try a houserule of "+2 bonus for ever 1 point of luck burned" if spent before the roll, "1 for 1 if you spend afterward." This might be a tad unbalancing, but I want to encourage spending before hand.
Haven't had a chance to test it out in game yet.

Re: Free RPG Day
I wish there was a Gaming Store "industry magazine" or something similar, so their could be a source of hard numbers that show what happens when a store does things like Free RPG day and events. My local gaming store (which I probably will go to a lot less now) has lots of room for games, ...

Re: Free RPG Day
Well, I just got back from the game store--picked up the DCC RPG module. Initially they were out, so I was about to head over to a different store, but one of the regulars gave me his copy. He had picked it up "just because" (I think they grabbed one of everything). I told him thanks, then...

Re: Luck to survive?
I love the idea of rewarding players for creative ideas, good RPing, etc. Whether it's bennies in Savage Worlds or Fortune in WFRP, my group has always responded well to this sort of mechanic and I'm really tempted to reward them with Luck when we start our DCC campaign. What do you guys think? I'm...

Re: Suggested Published Adventures That Would Make for Good
B2 or T1 (Keep on the Borderlands and Village of Hommlet) spring to mind as good basic modules. 'Course, they're fun in OD&D, AD&D, and in GURPS, so they're just fun in general. Against the Giants could work, but would take quite a bit of effort. It's designed for 9th level characters I beli...

Re: Get rid of infravision!
The problem with infravision is that it tends to make the human thief obsolete. I've actaually seen it make HUMANS as a whole obsolete. It's just one of those nice bonuses that makes non-humans "better" than humans. Why being a human mage when you can be an elven mage? Why be a human figh...

Re: Get rid of infravision!
One way of being able to explain how Dwarves and the like can handle being underground constantly might be via echolocation. That might verge on silly/cause problems in play. I vote to dump infravision, as well. Give dwarves "underground sight" and elves "star sight." Dwarves ca...

Re: Luck
I've seen other games with similar stats (not exactly, but comparable) and one of the ways I liked handling it was to give the players a boost for burning in advance. So, for example, if you burn Luck prior to rolling, each point equals a +2. If you burn AFTER, each point equals a +1. I don't know, ...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
For a D3, that's +1 to +3 to the roll. 3.x "class skills" are only, what, +4 (at level 1), versus cross class at 2? Given that DCC RPG targets are a LOT lower than in 3rd, it's totally fitting for a class. I mean, MDoA's aside, that big boost a warrior gets is that additional +1 to +3 in t...

Re: Elf, action dice pg 44
Your sense of "fairness" is showing. Huh? Fairness--and I have no idea why you put that word in quotes, so I'm just gonna ignore that for now--is NOT what I was going for, so much as clarity. If you have Mercurial Magic, and as a result you roll a D16 instead of a D20 for a specific spell...

True, but also reduces the need for the cleric to be a "heal bot."

Re: Warrior titles.
Personally, it seems like Titles for all the character classes come from 0ed - 1st Ed D&D, and are themselves holdovers from Chainmail. They seem to have little if any connection to fantasy literature (Aragorn only went from "Ranger" to "King" after all, and I don't recall Gr...

Luck to survive?
Characters can burn off Luck to survive life-or-death situations. Any character can permanently burn Luck to give a one-time bonus to a roll. For example, you could burn 6 points to get a +6 modifier on a roll, but your Luck score is now 6 points lower. I don't know if this is an issue or not, but ...

We used Index cards for each character which was fast and easy, as we kind of used them to represent the battlefield too. ... Again, if you have any specifics, just ask. Was the index card used as a character sheet, or did you have a "cheat sheet" of rules? How familair were the players w...
