Detect Evil results of 18+ will expose traps.
I've toyed with house-rules for the nature of what is revealed hinging on the cleric's alignment. Lawful clerics detecting chaotic beings, neutral clerics detecting beasts and traps, and evil clerics detecting lawful beings.

Re: Best monster, treasure books to supplement DCC with?
I'll just go ahead and put in a plug for "The Mother of All Encounter Tables" and "The Mother of All Treasure Tables" from Frog God Games/Necromancer (out of print, but still available in pdf format). I used to play DnD miniatures with Greg Ragland, the author of TMofET, and he ...

Result "4" from the same is milder: "Opponent is temporarily blinded. He suffers a -4 penalty to his next attack roll and may only move at half speed". Sorry to have somehow not noticed you've already accounted for these effects. :( It recently came up in my game, and so I quick...

You can also get some guidance on the Blindness front from the Mighty Deeds "Blinding Attacks" results (page 89). Result "5" is "Opponent is completely blinded for 1d4 rounds. He flails about with wild attacks, suffering a -8 to attack rolls, and can move only in a random di...

Re: Elf and Wizard spell questions
So do you have to randomly get Patron Bond/Invoke as a Wizard or is it automatic? I allow Wizards to select Patron Bond/Invoke as a starting spell, along with 3 randomly rolled spells. The Mercurial effect and manifestation are still random. A wizard can also forego a chosen patron and roll all 4 s...

The ability to level an entire city > a secret magic assassin. Great game. But I hold these truths to be self evident. Yeah, I know, and I probably will add spells. Everyone should. But C5 > W5. So it needs some afixin...thats all. Wizards can hit the top end of their spells with a little spell bur...

Re: Some more rules questions
I don't rule it that way. I'd give the player the option to roll anyway, that way they could get a potentially much higher spell check result. Or fail miserably and suffer hilarious corruption. I don't understand. How is giving them an option to roll the d20 going to get a higher potentia...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95
I had a question about whether the Rules As Written were meant to include a 'free whack' against spell-casters standing next to a melee threat. Somehow the dialog has taken a somewhat "4E is bad m'kay, and your questions are the reason...." tone. I understand that the game is a simpler gam...

Re: Electronic maps for print purchasers
People are wanting electronic versions of more things than just the maps. Having a copy-n-pastable version of the spells, for example.sheriffharry wrote:Yes, but maps aren't in the rulebook! ??

It's that third dimension that's tricky. It's a very thick book.sheriffharry wrote:8 1/2" X11" is difficult to scan??beermotor wrote: But the books aren't easily scanned due to their size
Every single scanner I saw in the last 10 years was built to scan letter size paper! (or larger)

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95
In actual play I call this the "free whack" rule. Do something that exposes your back to an enemy, and they get a free whack against you. I played with this rule back in the 1980's, before 3E turned it into an overly complex mechanism that required rulebooks and map grids to adjudicate. I...

You may want to go a step further and define which spells are available for each god, if you want to constrain that dynamic.

Maybe that's not a terrible result, but what if dude is average to solid otherwise, but has a 3 luck and gets Bountiful harvest. Yay, 1hp/level forever? That's not going to last long, no matter what the AC. Otoh, that character is *extremely* rare. First you have to roll a "3" for a stat ...

Typically, you can only burn Luck to modify a roll, so what roll are you thinking would be modified? Or are you thinking of introducing another temp-hp-specific usage of Luck burning?GnomeBoy wrote:Vanguard wrote: Back on topic: what if you could burn luck for temporary hit points?
