Re: New Judge Here Question About Old Modules
Since we're talking old (pre-DCC RPG) modules, I would love to see DCC RPG conversions of all the old material! Seems like a low-effort move that would dramatically increase the amount of DCC RPG canon, especially for those of us who aren't as into Lankhmar and the other product lines that have bee...

Re: On the Subject of XP and multiple characters in DCC
So first funnel I ran, I awarded 11 XP to every character that survived -- the problem was, Rob had three surviving characters, Susan had one, and Ron had four ... it was chaotic, and unbalanced. Each player had surviving characters, so next time I did a funnel, gave each player 11 XP to divide as ...

Re: On the Subject of XP and multiple characters in DCC
I can guarantee through long experience with multiple groups that awarding XP equally to multiple players run by the same player has never caused any inconvenience whatsoever at my table. Hopefully you mean multiple characters. :) Correct. Having players run other players is, I am told, frowned upo...

Re: Random God Names: Is Hesset from Leibers stories?
Hisvet let up Threesie's head to breathe. “Lovely,” she told her. “Your scream came down my throat. It tasted like divine spice.” Then, “Excellent, Foursie,” she called. “Stay on your toes, girl." Threesie cried, “Hesset help me,” invoking the Lankhmar moon goddess. “Make her stop, demoiselle, ...

Re: Death Checks - Halflings and Thieves
I let Halflings burn Luck at a 1-point-for-2 ratio, and the Lucky Halfling can do this for anyone. Roll under Luck means that, if you spend Luck, you change the number needed, but the Halfling 2-for-1 and the Thief Luck Die can get around this. Fleeting Luck can be spent on any part member, and can ...

Re: The Funnel Experience in Appendix N Fiction
It is a little known fact that Tolkien planned to run another campaign after LotR, once the main PCs retired. He ran a funnel called The Scouring of the Shire (all halflings). 19 halflings died in the funnel, which is about right for 6-7 players.

Re: The Funnel Experience in Appendix N Fiction
In Conan, for example, it seems to be implied that Conan certainly has been through his funnel in his times of enslavement (or was that only in the movie? My recollections of the stories are sketchy at best) - but that is largely off-screen. Is there a Conan "funnel story" or something th...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
I actively like that a caster can use spellburn during downtime. That's easy to say, and looking from above it is very easy to agree. It's only if you're forced into specifics - which is what I'm trying to do here - it becomes awkward or painful to maintain that lofty stance. Dude, getting you to t...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
To be clear, I am suggesting that there is no "unit of play" until the last die is cast. Encounters can bleed into other encounters. The orcs in one area can hear you fighting next door and reinforce their kin. Adventures can bleed into each other. Of course, but my point is that the spel...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
Since we are now talking about "in town" spellchecks, this post might not be relevant, but in terms of adventure design, I think this is: Consider an Agility check of DC 1. Characters without a penalty do not even need to roll, as they cannot fail. Those burdened by armor, or with low Agil...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
I would also like to point out that your entire premise is predicated on the PCs being able to assume that the campaign world is simply going to pause while they rest and recover. Nothing important is going to happen for the next 20 days. To use an AD&D example, the Ghost Tower of Inverness migh...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
First off, we are both experienced roleplayers. When I say there are problems, you can be assured there are. I am 100% assured that, when you say you have a problem, you are experiencing a problem. What I am not assured is that this is a general problem. When you give an example, though, we can act...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
I am not sure what specifically is being cast during downtime at your table, or why it is a problem. Perhaps you could enlighten up poor low-horizon folks? I don't want to quarrel. But neither do I want to talk to someone who doesn't even try to understand your problem. (Hint: any decent gamer will...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
You reducing the issue to porridge is just not arguing in good faith. Either you are or you are not arguing the Spellburn Actions table 5-1 is just fine and playable. So which is it - please state your position explicitly - and if you truly suggest it should be default, how come you yourself doesn'...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
First off, the table is clearly not written with playability in mind. Many results are downright disabling, to a much MUCH greater degree than the official "lose ability point" rules. So, in one case you find the porridge too hot, and in another too cold. The point is not that the porridg...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
The flaw in this logic is, you're not questioning the rule in the first place. That isn't a flaw in logic. If you think that the Spellburn rules in the book are patently abusable , I have to ask whether or not you are using the spellburn table in the book? I don't, because spellburn at my table is ...

Maybe I haven't been clear on where my camp is... I think it makes sense when it makes sense, and doesn't make sense when it doesn't make sense. No worries friend! The rules bend to you (and me), not the other way around! What makes the most sense to YOU is absolutely how you should do it! I was ju...
