This whole album is an Appendix N gem, but Miklagard Overture has to be one of the most Appendix N songs ever.

Re: Lay on Hands and Ability Score Damage
I guess I'd buck the trend and say it's do-able. I mean, the rules even say you can heal spellburn (but it's just a really, really bad idea to try). If you want to allow but discourage it, have each point require a result of 4 dice of healing, which makes it statistically likely to result in deity d...

Re: Non-Combat Spells & Creative Solutions
Cantrip: Patch of darkness across the eyes to blind an opponent. Kinetic effect on an enemy archer's bowstring just as he fires to give a to-hit penalty. Fake dog bark to make adjacent enemies look behind them so you can disengage without them getting a free swing at you. Feather Fall: Ask judge to ...

Re: Elves and Familiars
It does say under the general description of "Elf" that "Elves can cast spells as wizards do," which implies that all of the mechanics should be identical.

Re: Lucky roll without luck modifier
It's totally up to you as the judge. While it may seem pointless to have a character with no modifier roll on that table, remember that a big part of this game is characters questing to get stuff that they want. And another big part is making magic items unique. Let's say a player is dissatisfied at...

Re: Elves and Familiars
I think a certain amount of deliberate ambiguity is baked into the rules to reflect the foibles of old-school RPGs (and maybe even to force judges to make the game uniquely "theirs" through house rules). Unless I'm remembering wrong, you could also read the RAW such that only wizards, not ...

Re: Phrasing Responses to "Second Sight" Level 1 Cleric Spel
Because the judge makes this roll, there’s never any way for the cleric to know that the response is accurate. So my advice is to just role-play the deity. I mean, roll the die and pretend to consult the book, but answer based on how you think the deity perceives the cleric’s current status, and wha...

Re: Comments on "Elzemon and the Blood-Drinking Box"
- Created dehydration/starvation rules. This was probably where I spent the most energy. I created (and later posted online) how starvation and dehydration would affect players. By the time they get to the bottom of the stairs, they are starting to feel the dread of, "Holy crap... we didn't br...

MCC page 140: Maximum Number and Level of Wetware Programs That Can Be Learned. The whole page is about wetware in various aspects of rules mechanics. Thanks. I still find that really ambiguous, though. Does it mean a shaman with a 15 intelligence just adds one to the number of "gift" wet...

Re: Is the Shaman even playable?
I have noted that shamans can learn up to 5th level wetware programs. I suspect that we will begin to see something along those lines in adventures. I would also recommend that the judge, if he feels (reasonably) that the shaman is underpowered, simply supply some device that includes wetware progr...

Re: Is the Shaman even playable?
Thanks for the links. Does the Data Orb supplement clarify anything like how shamans are supposed to "eventually learn" three programs from their Patrons? The Patron AIs are cool, and many of their spells are interesting ... it just seems like a disproportionate amount of the manual is dev...

Re: Is the Shaman even playable?
The shaman will end up with the most artifacts. Artifacts are part of class balance. I get that the shaman will figure out slightly more artifacts with the additional +1 to artifact rolls, but figuring out slightly more artifacts and actually keeping appreciably more artifacts are two different thi...

Is the Shaman even playable?
I only got the book tonight, but I’m having trouble seeing how the Shaman is worth playing. Without multiple patrons, the rules seem to pretty clearly limit you to a maximum of four spells per day, and that’s assuming you glowburn enough to get the maximum Patron Bond effect. A DCC wizard or cleric ...

Brandybland will attempt to assist Toby in his efforts to bring the ship down slowly. Nurzual will say, in Planetary Common basic, “Perhaps we should try, you know, talking to them first. Just being careful not to eat any seeds they might try to entice us to eat.” Then he says to the rousing Ytothia...

If Brandybland has a sense of the intentions of her copilot, she will attempt to cooperate with his direction. Otherwise she’ll attempt to speak or otherwise communicate with him to figure out what they should do. Qort decided that perhaps the frozen aliens or the zombiemechs might have some blood h...

Nurzual says, in Planetary Common, "What if we wait a dash longer before we kill more of the 'demons? '" Brandybland will step onto the pedestal. Qort tries to think what other liquid might be available to slake his deity's thirst. "Well ... there's pee, but that's a bit ick. Oh, bloo...

Re: Purple Planet Funnel, Campaign
Elated by this clear deific response, Qort immediately attempts to cast Detect Magic again. His modified roll of 10 produces no results from the spell. Pensive and morose, he ponders the situation. Qort: "Maybe Besfrendedil wasn't accepting my offering. maybe he was just thirsty." Qort puz...
