As far as needing a high enough INT to know it for free, but getting a free language regardless at 1st, but with your native tongue not being rollable on that chart?

It's certainly a to each his own sort of thing. I myself find firearms as anathema to fantasy gaming. There are no guns in Lord of the Rings, no one in Conan stories uses them, and I don't recall ever seeing them in the old 1st ed Ad&D adventures despite if they showed up in a rule book. I guess...

I honestly don't like music for my games. I find the only exception has been Vampire:The Masquerade where I have once in a great while played music that might be going on where the pcs are. Usually though I find it too distracting.
