Re: DCC Book of the New Sun

I've got the GURPS sourcebook which works well as a sort of New Sun almanac but system-wise... well it's GURPS.

The most disappointing thing is that the bestiary doesn't have a picture for the Alzabo. Maybe they didn't think they could do Wolfe's most iconic monster justice?

DCC Book of the New Sun

I need it! I've backed Saberhagen and am eagerly anticipating the Dying Earth set. New Sun would complete the post-apocalyptic fantasy trilogy.

If you don't do it I'll write it myself!!!

Re: Minor Birth Augurs for Luck 8-12

I feel like DCC RPG is actually very mechanics-focused and that's what I like about it. While D&D has encouraged GMs to cheat for decades now, DCC tells its Judges to roll out in the open. Good, simple mechanics like a bonus for your birth augur can be a springboard to creative gaming, which is ...

Re: Minor Birth Augurs for Luck 8-12

This is a great idea. I just started a campaign with The Hole in the Sky, and the players with +0 luck were pretty underwhelmed by their star sign changing. I wish I'd seen this post first!

Maybe I can retrofit something hmmm...

Re: Why are warriors so overpowered?

Until I read this post I didn't think warriors were overpowered because I thought the mighty deed die bonus only applied to to-hit rolls. Now that I see it's supposed to add to damage as well I agree with the OP! As the GM and only person who owns the rulebook, I might just keep playing the way I or...

Re: City Maps & Settings

Maybe this goes without saying but... City-State of the Invincible Overlord is the go-to detailed city that hasn't been bested since 1979. I used it in my recent DCC campaign and could do so in a hundred others.

Re: Dying Earth

Those covers are absolutely sick. I watched the twitch stream of the DCC playtest for Dying Earth and the city with the colored hats was just perfect. I will definitely be in on this package day 1!

Re: Dying Earth - Turjan or Cugel

I absolutely adored the first two books (Dying Earth & Eyes). Every page had some fantastic, insane concept that was dying to be expressed. I found myself laughing out loud and constantly pestering my wife about the latest crazy event I just read. Then Cugel's Saga was fun in a mannerpunk sort o...

Re: DCC Halfling only class that's worse than Basic D&D source

Balance aside, the lack of scaling abilities is a big motivational issue. The halfling in our long campaign never really seemed to get much better as he leveled (I had to give him various powers and items to keep up his interest). It's not something that ruins the game and clever GMs/players can def...

Re: Abolish the Thief Class

I've had the same thoughts but my instinct has always been to eliminate those spells that duplicate thief abilities. Wizards already have plenty of amazing powers, why should they be able to climb walls and open doors easily?

Of course, if you like super Wizards and don't like thieves, go crazy!

Chained Coffin wheel solution

I just got the new hardcover supplement and I read through the whole Chained Coffin adventure and I can't figure out how the players are supposed to discover the solution to the wheel puzzle. It's an awesome add-in with all sorts of potential for interpretation and reasoning but as far as I can tell...
