Re: Mighty Deeds Of Arms and other classes

I am firmly in the camp of not spreading Deeds around. It's not that other Classes and NPCs can't attempt to trip opponents, disarm opponents, etc. -- it's that they can't do it along with damage. They choose either/or -- the Warrior and the Dwarf can deal damage AND perform stunts/swashbuckling/et...

Re: New to OSR and DCC. Changes to the in-game religion system for duty and freedom of conscience.

Very good friend! We have similar dreams! I am a writer, in Brazil, and I have been preparing a novel for years, it will be a series, in fact, based on the antediluvian world, the title of the series, most likely, will be Antediluvian Chronicles. I would very much like to read your novel series and...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn

This will be the last time I engage with you, CapnZapp, on this or any other "rules are broken" topic. It's not that I lack an understanding or an ability to offer insight, but rather I have seen it demonstrated that you will dismiss anything that doesn't fit your predetermined answer. I a...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn

I never suggested you were not smart enough. I suggested that you missed the best part of the game. The more you try to guard against rules exploitation, the more rules you need. The more rules you have, the more opportunities for exploitation. The beautiful part of DCC and other OSR games is that t...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn

Just like it is better to not allow Detect Evil, realize it ruins investigation adventures, and then supply every evil guy with a Hat of Non-Detection... ...it is better if the rules doesn't simply allow casters to spend 30 points on spellburn, realize there's no real cost unless you're in the midd...

Re: Combining the best of Starless Sea and Savage Kings?

I think your blend sounds awesome and your players should have a fun time.
I also think both modules are strong as written and playing them in succession is also a fun option.
Whichever approach you take, as long as you lean into the system and embrace it, you should all have a great time.

I second GnomeBoy here. Knowing what is available to you will make the selection process much faster than listing off modules that may or may not be available.

Re: Tips for starting at 1st level?

Lankhmar does not use zero level characters or the Funnel. You could introduce them via the Lankhmar Box Set and go from there. Does that Lankhmar box set include rules for setting up lvl 1's? or does it merely reference the core rules? I would have to look again at the specifics, but generally eve...

Re: Van Den Danderclanden - Snafufubar

Given that one Snafufubar can lead to others, we shall attempt Invoke Patron to see if Van den Danderclanden deigns to merge the Crawlverse’s various Snafufubars into one… while fully cognizant that this could cause the end to our timeline (or others) altogether. This is how you turn your DCC game ...

You may not want to hear this, but I just snagged a new Purple Planet Boxed set on Ebay for a not too outrageous price. Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

PS. Not that it's the topic of this thread, but I never understood the way DCC handles its iron allergy. In a game unafraid to cripple characters in many and varied ways, they give one of the core character classes a crippling handicap only to basically remove it again in the very next sentence. Wu...

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

Huh. What I am writing right now will eventually tie into a trip to the world's moon to rescue a queen. This moon is where my feral "first" elves come from. Looks like another case of "Simpsons did it!" Damn. I might have to get this. :? I am willing to bet your ideas are suffic...

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

I bought this recently:
https://www.exaltedfuneral.com/products/moon-elves-pdf
It has some interesting elements that you could mine to redefine elves and elven culture, depending on what kind of setting you are using for your game.
I can see using it for both DCC and Troika! games.

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

This is a great question and one I too struggle with answering. I keep wanting to do something more, something special, but all that happens is half formed vagaries swirl about and fail to coalesce into a recognizable (or usable) form. So far, I too am elf free. I keep defaulting in my assumptions d...

There is talk of a hardback printing coming to Indiegogo I think. See the 44:40 mark of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlujxpHVQZk I agree it's not as good as a boxed set, but at least its better than a PDF! While I do hope to eventually get a true box set, a hardback book would at lea...
