Re: DCC 100 Kickstarter Launched and Funded!

Been awfully quiet around these parts. TPK?

Any updates on DCC100? I thought it was supposed to be out in early 2023.

Re: What's the deal with 32+ Sleep?

Thanks to the OP for pointing out a nuance I completely overlooked that I will 100% use in my game for an interesting encounter / adventure hook. It also has solid foundation in Appendix N. Whole castles & villages and nations being cast into endless slumber appears all over classic fantasy lite...

Re: Variant Rules: Skill Dice by Occupation - Chart

Is P the letter for Cleric?? Yeah, sorry. When I was typing up the list I had in mind "Priest" rather than "Cleric". I think at one point I actually had "C" instead of "P" and convinced myself it was the other way around. At first, I was pitched into thinking...

Re: Variant Rules: Skill Dice by Occupation - Chart

Quite a job ! I like the idea of using the dice chain more, but when I master, I make skill rolls by feel, which also allows players to argue against their background. I also see that you use the d18, a die that is not required in the basic rules. Still, this list will probably be of interest to so...

Variant Rules: Skill Dice by Occupation - Chart

Hi all, I wanted to share something I am working on. I've been wanting to flesh out the skills system for DCC RPG. Not to be too over-prescriptive, but I've wanted to better implement the dice chain into skill rolls. I like dice, and I like to mix them up, which is one of the reasons I was drawn to ...

Re: Journey to the Centre of Aerth after Starless Sea

Thanks Bobjester. I actually just discovered Chanters on the Dark myself! I wish I had known about it before my last session of Sailors, so i could have teased them into it. But we are still in between sessions and I think I will implement Chanters as a waypoint adventure in their journey to the cen...

Re: Journey to the Centre of Aerth after Starless Sea

2008's Journey to the Centre of the Earth with Brendan Fraser is a terrible movie but has some surprisingly good inspiration for D&D.

Re: Journey to the Centre of Aerth after Starless Sea

Thanks for the comments BanjoJohn. The module (JCA) is primarily written about "the journey" with "the destination" treated almost more like an after-thought. I guess thats fair, considering the title of the module. The supplemental book The Lost City of Barroko provides more col...

Re: A request regarding adventure formatting

I agree for the most part with the OP. I have very strong opinions about how modules should be written. For a start, I think the full arc of the module should be set out clearly in an adventure summary at the start of the book. You shouldn't need to read the whole module to know where the module is ...

Journey to the Centre of Aerth after Starless Sea

So I've decided to follow up Sailors on the Starless Sea (Sailors) with #91 Journey to the Centre of Aerth (JCA) and I am keen to hear other peoples' experiences of running the latter. The Viking Longship from the Sailors will take the PCs directly into the underground river detailed in JCA. This wi...

There are in fact ways this can be done. There is a recipe for making scratch-card paint, by mixing dish soap into standard acrylic paint (metallic grey for tradition)

Re: a question about Sailors on the Starless Sea

I set up the PCs as having come from the Village of Hirot from Doom of the Savage Kings. I really like Hirot and wanted to use it as a base from which to adventure. Although I probably won't play Savage Kings as written, the villagers are more or less portrayed as written, with the reluctant and fea...

Re: a question about Sailors on the Starless Sea

Thanks Bobjester. What do you reckon might happen? Assuming the PCs return the next day, i imagine the Chaos Lord would still be consolidating power and rallying his forces for invasion. By day 3 I imagine he would march on the village in order to grow his ranks. The first scenario should be easy en...

Re: a question about Sailors on the Starless Sea

I have a new Starless Sea question: My players finished exploring the upper level of the ruin and defeated the Bullhead Beastman and his lackeys. They lost roughly 40% of their 0-level PCs so far. They want to return to the village and regroup. I made clear that there were other prisoners who were t...

Re: Core Rules Setting Sandbox?

Unfortunately the good folks at Goodman Games have resisted writing a structured world. It is a bit problematic for those of us who would like to run a sandbox style campaign. Isle of Dread would actually be an excellent DCC RPG campaign. That little module has potential for years of on-going play (...

Re: Combining the best of Starless Sea and Savage Kings?

Gaming the character sheets is a good idea! If we get any for our group, I'll have the players do that. 8) One caveat- we lost nearly half the party before they ever got to reveal several stats, which seems kind of wasteful. Strength, Agility and Luck got a lot of use but the Stamina, Personality a...

Re: Mighty Deeds Of Arms and other classes

Came across this old thread via Google since I was also trying to find out whether there were any rules for 0-levels and Non-Warriors to accomplish special attacks that essentially replicate MDoAs. In the absence of anything specific I am applying the Dice Chain to the action. Just as a non-wizard c...

Re: Combining the best of Starless Sea and Savage Kings?

I've heard of the scratch off character sheets, but I was skeptical of their utility from the beginning, although a work-mate who is interested in starting DCC saw them online and wants to get them. We enjoyed using them immensely. I prompted players to reveal their ability scores the first time th...

Re: Combining the best of Starless Sea and Savage Kings?

Thanks. In the end I began Sailors as written, but as expected my players wanted to know more about their village, so I made them originate in Hirot. We are still mid-Sailors so I am not sure where it will go from there, as in whether or not I will run Doom afterwards, or if I will just use the town...

Combining the best of Starless Sea and Savage Kings?

So 10 years later I have finally pulled together a group to play DCCRPG. I am planning the first session, which commences this week. Initially I wanted to start with Sailors on the Starless Sea (Sailors) and follow up with Doom of the Savage Kings (Doom), as many have done previously and suggested. ...
