Re: The beta rules will be available...

It was over 1100 when I downloaded it at 6:30 est this morning. At first glance, I am totally blown away by how cool this looks. :D

For spellbooks, I think something like this would be pretty cool-

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Not with my experince, I have seen entire campaigns end becuase of a long and heated argument over what a player can or can't do occur between player and GM, especially when the survival of a character or campaign plot hinges on how something is ruled, either a GM or a player can get pretty bent ou...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Going by the rules assumptions in the first post, I ran some tests to see how the percentages for this should work out. The test case is a fighter with no str mod trying to hit AC 15 with a long sword (or whatever does 1d8 damage) over levels 1-10. Level 1 Chance to hit- 40% Avg. Damage- 7 MDoA Chan...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]

I can see where this could be a problem, especially for dm's who might have waste time consulting spell tables for who knows how many npc's or monsters in one night. I won't really have an opinion until I see the rules and playtest some though. One thing that might be an option- couldn't you make a ...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

In DCC RPG right now, warriors get d3 at level 1, d4 at level 2, d5 at level 3, and so on.
So I guess we can extrapolate the fighter as so-

1 - d3
2 - d4
3 - d5
4 - d6
5 - d7
6 - d8
7 - d10
8 - d12
9 - d14
10 - d16

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

This one wounds the creature, causes falling damage, puts the creature behind enemy lines (assuming the fighter is going up the staircase), and leaves them prone after the fall. That's a lot going on for something that is 33% at 1st level and improves to 50% at 2nd level. It's not that high because...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG

Somehow one of the most obvious flaws in the game got lost in the enthusiasm of the play and the options. That wasn't a design flaw, longer combats were actually one of their design goals. It just happened to be something that not everyone wanted. It's the same thing with the design of DCC. Unpredi...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?

What they probably should do is the "number twice" option so that they could use rounder shapes, so that a d5 could be a d10 numbered 1-5 twice and so on. There are d6's numbered 1-3 twice, D10's numbered 1-5 twice, D8's numbered 1-4 twice, and d20's numbered 0-9 twice. I definitely would...

Re: Non-combat encounter?

Many have speculated that the only reason that OS sold any copies at all was its mention in OD&D. It certainly wasn't an exciting game. I tried playing it a few times and ended up with characters who were lost and wandering aimlessly around the map. Wheeeee! Hey, I bought it before I even heard...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?

Players are weird. For the past two months or so, I've just been running our Pathfinder game like an old basic D&D game, ignoring 95% of the crunchy rules. But the players sit there with their complex character sheets in front of them, and are happy. No one even seems to have noticed. This kind...

Re: Free RPG Day

I have a question on RPG day etiquette. Since my local gamin store isn't participating in the event, how rude would it be for me to shop, get the free module, by some other product and head out? I def. want to support the store that I will be going to (and therefore plan to buy at least one book an...

Re: Adventure! What kind will you run for DCC?

This is an easy one for me, I will be converting one of my favroite moduals from DnD basic, escape from Zanzer's Dungeon! Eh? I don't think I know that one. Who made it, or where can I find it? It came in the big black box version of basic D&D from the 90's. This one- http://3.bp.blogspo...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1

It's fairly obvious that was what he was suggesting. I suspect that mixed level parties will be as bad an idea in DCCRPG as they are in D&D 3.x and 4. I hope that isn't the case. Mixed level parties were the norm up until 3rd edition and they worked perfectly well. Unbalanced parties are also v...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1

My understanding is that level 0 is the origin story, so to speak. I think Joseph calls it the "Character Funnel" or something like that. Those PCs that survive the 0-level adventure become level 1 and get a class at that time. The character will still have a back story. That is where the...

Re: Designer’s Diary #4: Adventuring in DCC RPG

Thus, I applaud the aspiration to introduce at least one new monster per adventure. But two things come to mind. Firstly, it will be difficult to create original and interesting new monsters with such regularity. Be careful it doesn't become an albatross around your neck. I'd rather skip the new mo...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG

It probably isn't cost effective for small companies but I think that must be weighed against the potential negative impact of not being there. If a company isn't there, it makes them look like they aren't serious or are unsuccessful, perhaps even about to go out of business. Also, fair or not, if a...
