Tricking players knowledge in favour of characters knowledge

This came to mind while i was running D&D last night, and my characters knew everything about the monster i pitched against them. I know DCCRPG is going to solve this by not having standard monsters, but i guess i'd like to share this idea cos it might be useful for everyone playing an RPG, and ...

Re: Would you buy a full DCC themed 14-dice set? (Unofficial

regarding dice color: sure, everyone likes matching colors. But when it came to buying d3,d5, d16,d24,d30... I bought them all in different colors, and different size from my 7-dice sets. That way I can tell in a sec that the d3 is the "red one w/white numbers", and i won't just pick one o...

Re: Would you buy a full DCC themed 14-dice set? (Unofficial

why not just selling "the odd dice", as a set? I guess most people have a 7-dice set already. I already bought the dice i needed, but if there were like a set of d3,d5,d7 (i like them as d6,d10,d14 numbered twice..) d14,d16 d24,d30 that would be cool. It's just another 7-dice set, so it co...

Re: What did you like about 3.x?

I'm playing 4E, and I'm running 3.5 . I can say that they are simply two different games, and the only thing they have in common is: they're called D&D, they use dice. It's like chess and draughts - they both use the same board, but they are different games. I simply like everything in 3.5 bette...

Re: Identifying Magic Items Properties

I simply don't let them identify items "the D&D way". The magic item is always a mistery unsolved, no matter how deep you dwelve in its secrets, you feel like there's always more to it. They find a sword, i tell them "it radiates some magical energy of sorts" and "you ge...

Thx for the reply.
I've actually bought them - and i like using all of them except the d20, which tends to keep rolling endlessly because our table seems to be not perfectly horizontal :)
But they're fun, they look like the rune-carved bones shamans throw to divine the future :D

Re: Mithril Chain Shirt

You just said "Elves can produce mithril cheaper", which is not so much different from "an elf get its first mithril set as a heirloom, or from his people as a farewell gift". But it is very different from "Elves can buy mithril cheaper". Everything you said makes sense...

Re: Mithril Chain Shirt

Just read the rules : At 1st level, an elf character may purchase one piece of armor and one weapon that are manufactured of mithril at no additional cost. Mithril armor weighs slightly less than iron or steel armor of the same type and can be worn by the elf without the pain normally associated wi...

Re: Mithril Chain Shirt

it doesn't make any sense that the same thing costs differently for elves than for other races. Just make it expensive - it will be the most desired piece of equipment for elves.

Re: How I gave different XP to each player

Good Rolelplaying for me is: - behave as your character would (if you said you're the spiritual kind of guy, who doesn't care about gold pieces, then don't be greedy when you find a ruby!! "Hey I said gold pieces, this is a ruby" -.- ?? ) I like this one ;) - Speak "In character"...

Re: Class & Racial Class

I.e. a Dwarf that has no ability to craft, work with stone, see in the dark, etc. isn't a Dwarf. It's a short Human with body-hair issues. Maybe that dwarf was raised by humans, or among them, so he really never had the chance to use and learn his racial abilities. Along those lines, an elf would b...

Re: Why differing experience advancement

I'm sorry, i'm not sure I understand the point of your post :? Are you suggesting to put an XP-cap on classes, rather than a level cap? Like : the max amount of XP you can obtain is 100'000 (random number i picked), by then elves will have reached 8th level, wizards 9th level, warriors 10th level, d...

Crystal shaped dice

Hi there, I wanted to know if those weird crystal shaped dice (you know, the elongated ones, that you roll "like a log" rather than "like a ball") actually perform their duty well. I fear they might not stop clearly on one face, or risk being unbalanced, and with that shape I fea...

Re: Why differing experience advancement

this is being debated somewhere else as well, I think in the "LOOT=XP" thread, but Im not 100% sure! That's the one. The question seems to be "why" rather than "what do we like best" so my answer to that would be that it was an attempt to create some element of balance...

Re: Occupations you'd like to see

Lots of maritime occupations, or at least something saying " Hunter ( or Fisherman if applicable)" along the occupations we already have. I don't know if this can help, but here you can find an occupation list I created for my homebrew game: http://www.mediafire.com/file/5l4osggwdj77jhd/Ar...

Re: How I gave different XP to each player

Just curious, but, what constitutes worst, average and best? Oh sorry I thought it was clear. I mean, I had 4 players, and some did better than others at roleplaying so i think they deserve a small incentive. Good Rolelplaying for me is: - behave as your character would (if you said you're the spir...

How I gave different XP to each player

I guess any method is as good as any other, but I thought I'd like to share what I've done with my first session (it is actually a D&D3.5 game, but the same can be applied to any game really). I had a total 1400 XP to divide among 4 PCs. Instead of getting mad about individual rewards for each a...

Re: Loot=XP

The point is what 2000 xp means for a fighter vs a thief vs a wizard is not dependent on some weird abstraction of what those classes are. It is dependent on whatever the game designer wants. And I suspect this game designer will want the impression that 3rd level is 3rd level is 3rd level for all ...

Maybe Jospeh can be convinced that Goodman Games should also sell the PDF, maybe at a discount for pre-order folks, in which case you could get it in advance of the paper copy. Might save you the 2-3 week delay. Due to the awesomeness of the product, maybe abk108 should move! Yeah... Italy su...

Good to hear :)

I was wondering, how comes that to get to UK it takes 2-3 weeks, and to get to Europe it takes 4-6?? :| That's so lame, it means that I'll be getting a copy on april 2012!! -.-
