Re: Old Dudes Play Doom!
Another interesting write-up. This is the kind of informative thing I would like to see on the AP forums at rpg.net but do not often see on there. It has the right balance of mechanics and roleplaying that makes it useful and entertaining to read. I like clerics and having more than one is always us...

Re: Mercurial Necromancy
Unease - people have a negative reaction to the necromancer in any dealings they have with him. -1 to caster's Personality. Light Sensitivity - caster's eyes become acutely sensitive to bright light. -1 to attack rolls in bright sources of light. Carrion - caster develops a need to feast on the fles...

Re: Mercurial Necromancy
Some other ideas I am tossing around are Blood Mage, Treebender (for those elven types),Lithomancer, Trickster, and Chronomancer. Lithomancer? Is that a kind of earth/stone elementalist? AD&D had a class book for chronomancers which is kinda useful as did the Mongoose series Blood Axe mentions ...

Re: Mercurial Necromancy
I love your idea of an Arachnomancer! A rather predictable list from me below and I am sure some are already in DCC's mercurial magic list but how about: Horror - effects living creatures around caster. Cause panic, paralysation Drain - Hp drained from living creatures about caster as spell is cast ...

Re: Old Dudes Play Doom!
I think that Doom of the Savage Kings is the best OSR module I have acquired so far.
These write-ups of it are very good, with a nice example of a spell duel and combat examples too. Useful for anyone who is interested in seeing how DCC plays.

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
A nice range of choices there but I voted for Paladin/Anti-Paladin, Bard and Monk, mostly down to fond memories of those things in my old 1st ed PHB (well, not Anti-Paladin, that was not in it!).
It would be nice to see a Paladin class with different alignment paths like the Thief in DCC.

Re: Random Esoteric DCC Monsters
Here is my first creation from the RECG, used as I rolled it up. Not very unusual but frightened the crap outta the party I used them on. I initially aimed for a 1HD creature but the result doubled the HD. Ophidian Init +1; Atk bite +6 melee (2d4) & tail +3 melee (1d6) or 4 x limbs used for subd...

I seemed cursed to be inflicted with rain of frogs for mercurial magic on a regular basis.
I remember my astonishment when I first got this along with a spell. Never had it with Flaming Hands though as you have had. Crispy frog effects are awesome!

+1 for this. DCC has inspired me revisit my old collection of Appendix N books and check out other ones on it's list for myself as well.nerdwerds wrote: DCC RPG has made me want to attend conventions again, has inspired me to read more of Appendix N, and has reignited my imagination and passion for gaming.

Make the funnel ongoing. Frees the DM for killing. Frees the players to keep loving the funnel. I can imagine a spell book having a longer history than it's owners. +1 for for having an ongoing funnel. Nice idea to retain a fallen character's spellbook too, to be taken up by an upcoming 0 level cha...

Re: Wandering monsters
Note the encounter table while wandering the mire in Doom. Some cool stuff there! Ah, well spotted RC, I forgot about that one! Maybe this kinda thing fits better, a unified table of random events (monsters, traps, weird events etc) as Ragboy said, rather than just pure random wandering monster tab...

Wandering monsters
One thing that struck me when I first picked up my first adventures for DCC like Doom of the Savage Kings and Sailors on the Starless Sea, were the absence of wandering monster tables. All the scenarios I have played up to and including Emerald Enchanter are very well constructed with their allocati...

Well said old chap!
DCC stands out from the pack for me as it has a very different feel than systems which just follow the AD&D/BECM rule-sets too closely.

Re: Gygax pre-"Appendix N"
How well did Algernon's work mesh with the rest of Appendix N? Algernon Blackwood is an interesting inclusion. I have a couple of volumes of his stories. His short stories are about the supernatural rather than outright sword and sorcery fantasy. His tales range from gentle fantasies to chilling gh...

Greetings everyone! The DCC RPG crowd is becoming a MOB!!!! http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t138/sheriffharry/angry-mob.jpg If you look carefully, sherriffharry's avatar picture of Dean Stockwell bears an uncanny resemblance to the man leading the mob! Re: First Time Judging in 20 years...
I'd say "don't stress the small stuff." Just because you think you saw a rule somewhere about something doesn't mean that you need to use it this time. You might tell the players that you think there's a rule, but just get them rolling dice and keep moving. You can look it up and discuss ...

He includes monks in the only Conan novel he wrote, The Hour of the Dragon . I can remember the priests of Asura, the creepy Khitan man-hunters with their scaly staffs and Thutothmes with the Stygian sorcerers/priests of the Black Ring but I cannot remember any monks as such in The Hour of the Drag...

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Intro (& suggestions thread.
A gnome class is really a magical halfling, a druid is a wilderness cleric, a ranger is a wilderness fighter and an illusionist a variant wizard. I would like to see versions of all of these but really the monk, the psionicist and the bard are distinctive enough for me. I wonder about the paladin. I...

I use 1:72 plastic figures from Strelets, Zvesda and other plastic figure manufacturers. You can pick up some great sets of peasant levies, armys, armed with farming implements etc.

Re: Necromancer: Wizard or Cleric?
One example from appendix N literature would be REH's Xaltotun from 'The Hour of the Dragon'. He would nicely fit the undead necromancer, a parody of life that people have mentioned above. The line is easily blurred between the spells of a cleric and a wizard. +1 for the suggestions of a wizard with...

I will try my hand at and would also be interested in other people's takes on bards, paladins, gnomes, rangers and maybe a monk/mystic from the PHB/RC.
Possibly druids and illusionists, though they are bit too close to the cleric and wizard classes for me.
