Re: What other Appendix N inspired settings would you like to see?

... I almost mentioned Eddison's The Worm Ouroboros when I saw this thread yesterday, but my only reservation is I think you'd need high level DCC characters to do it justice. I can't imagine a 0-level adventure on Eddison's Middle Earth. It's all climbing unclimbable mountains, riding untamable be...

It's not appendix N but Discworld by Terry Pratchett would be fun.
Happiness! A Discworld setting would be grand fun, indeed.

Re: What other Appendix N inspired settings would you like to see?

Not so much Appendix N inspired, but I feel like DCC could use a good Space Opera setting. There is 'Star Crawl' which fills that void to a certain extent. Feel obliged to start with: point me to a DCC core settings book with gender-inclusive/balanced language and images, and I will absolutely buy ...

Thanks to everybody. Also, I realize that just because something drives me batty doesn't mean it is inherently flawed. I'm grateful for y'all's help. I wish that all the images of females in the DCC books were images of females that men would be willing to role-play around their daughters. I am the ...

Well, that's clever and kind. Plus much, much better than post-its. Thank you for the actionable, effective idea.

core book (images of women) really bad for me. Don't want players to lose their characters. Ideas?

Y'all have been a lot of help. The campaign is going pretty well, but I'm having trouble mastering the rules because I just hate picking up the core book. Yesterday I was doing pretty well, going over material in the back, and just got stopped by the cartoon at the bottom of the Humanoid Table on p....

Re: request: 50/50 gender split in art + gender-match in realism, % body clothed

i think that this shows that dcc "iconics" are really inclusive in every possible way. and girl band as opposed to boys band. tongue in cheek witticism. you could say that shana is chaka khan and you know she is every woman. Hmmm.... Let me be sure I understand. I'm hearing two arguments ...

Re: building largish NPC groups: how to do this efficiently?

brief update: first session, with lots of yeti, went well! This was my "session 0" + intro to adventure. I clearly have a lot to learn, so that's humbling! and the players had a good time with the yeti + went gloriously off-script. I had to call a bio-break and brainstorm with my husband, ...

guide to making DCC gods/patrons?

I was wondering if y'all know of a resource, reddit page, blog post, PDF, etc. that would help one design a god/patron. One that is rules-sensible and DCC-funky; that plays well while retaining DCC flavor.

thanks for thoughts/pointers.

:D to see your thoughts, catseye yellow! Argument would be more convincing if the band were all- women . Girls: not the same thing. Really not. Also more convincing if the clothing standards were gender-balanced. As it stands, reminds me of an Italian scientist at an (also-Italian) seminar on inclus...

GnomeBoy, thanks for specific suggestions + your link to cool creatures. Am re-reading carefully, taking notes. Likewise Raven_Crowking, very useful link & those do look like great creatures to include in the slave caravan. I'm really grateful, was a bit daunted but I've already told the players...

I looked and now I figure I ought to say something ... Hi! I've been to Houston. Nice place, esp. in the fall. Re: Dark but not too dark...

Our group recently got apathetic in a couple of campaigns. I think there were two problems: First, one campaign just killed you if you had the least thread of nobility. As in, you had to be willing to just throw NPCs under the bus if you didn't want to get killed; or maybe just spend most of your ti...

building largish NPC groups: how to do this efficiently?

First, thanks just so much for all y'all's help. My players seem to be having a grand time. Next up for my players, who have come out of a tech-ed out version of "Frozen in Time": they have stumbled into the encampment of intelligent yeti who had them drop their weapons & are offering ...

Am newbie, and have players who have done DCC before so they're unfussed generally, but am -- I don't know at this point, seconding or thirding or maybe fourthing? -- gnomeboy's ordinary dice approach. This what we're doing. I think that the only player with the actual DCC dice is my also-a-judge pl...

Re: Rounds vs turns and timekeeping

but in combat, ho rounds vs turn work. if i cast a spen and it lasts for 03 rounds, vs i cast a spall and it lasts for 03 turns? Combat always "rounds up" to at least 1 turn. If you cast a spell lasting 3 rounds, it lasts for 3 rounds during combat. So 30 seconds. If you cast a spell last...

Re: Rounds vs turns and timekeeping

What Raven said. Does the effect last 1d8 x 10 seconds or 1d8 x 10 minutes? If it says rounds, then it's 10-80 seconds of time. Similarly, there's a trap in Tower of the Black Pearl that activates after 3 rounds. When I've run this, I've just let the players say what the characters are doing and gi...

@GnomeBoy: thanks, that is very helpful. Extremely.

And, as you say, much more do-able than starting de novo esp. since I'm not all that familiar with DCC yet AND I don't want to break it for my players who love it.

@finarvyn -- I get the benefit of modules. If this were D&D 5e I'd probably be module-stitching for this. However, things are hard enough these days and I just don't have the psychological reserves to deal with the gender stuff in DCC modules. I do not want to ever run another module that assume...

Well, thought I'd keep y'all posted. In case it is helpful to anybody else. I ordered MCC and it definitely will be useful.
