Re: Loot=XP
For a game that talks about putting power back in the GM's hand, DCCRPG would be a great place to experiment with no xp tables. Imagine a game where the rules simply state "You gain a level when the DM damn-well tells you you gain a level. Level lose is handled the same way." Poof! no comp...

Re: To Mini Or Not To Mini
I played Moldvay B/X with and without minis and preferred it with minis. I played 1e with minis. I played 2e with minis. I played Champions with minis. I played GURPS with minis. All before I played 3e with minis. Why would I stop playing with minis?

Re: I think standard monsters should not be in the rulebook.
I'm sorry, but orcs, hobgoblins, ogres and trolls must be in the rulebook. You can't dungeon crawl without the old standbys. There's nothing wrong with the standard monsters becoming standard. In fact, the weird monsters would feel less weird without "mundane" monsters to compare them agai...

I've sought that holy grail myself. Between spells, magic items and monsters, it is an impossible lower limit for a medium-to-heavy rules D&D-style game.Harley Stroh wrote:Heh, yeah. I think the original concept was a 64 pager ...

Re: Rethinking hit points
Have you tried vitality and wound points ? Here's a basic summary, read the link for the full 3.X Ed details. It's basically a combination of normal hit points and get a bunch of HP at first level then never go up. Vitality recovers very quickly but if it goes to 0, you start losing wound points. Wo...

This is an important point. 20 is meaningless on a d24 or d30 if you don't actually hit.nudnic wrote:I think there should be a clause that says you need to hit on a 20 (when rolling a higher die type) to crit. The max number on the die always hits.

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
As written, the DCC beta makes it impossible to trip an opponent. .... A 1 or 2 paragraph guideline that offers tips for new GMs when situations aren't covered would be nice and is probably necessary. And this is all I'm asking for. So why be a jerk about it when you want the EXACT same thing I do?...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
I don't understand the comparisons to 3E. 3E allows any character to attempt all the things covered by MDoAs. There are rules for all of them and even Fighters probably will not have the feats that make it "safe" to trip or disarm an opponent. The Combat rules for 3E are 25 pages long and ...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
Using luck as a power point pool, just like thieves already do in DCCRPG, reminds you of 4th edition daily powers???? Does not compute. Well the difference is that normally if a thief runs out of luck points he can still attempt the same things as when he had the points, he is just more likely to f...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
I just think the other classes don't need a deed die at all. Assign a difficulty (called shot difficulty of -8 is a good base for most deeds, -4 to -12 is a good range) and allow a save/ability check by the opponent to prevent it. This latter part is the key to the whole thing as no matter what the...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
How about setting a DC which the PC can Burn Luck (if they have any) to decrease before rolling ? Isn't that what we are saying? You spend luck to be your Deed Die. So if you need a 3 result to get the desired effect, it costs 3 luck. If you need a 7 result to get the desired effect, it costs 7 luck.

Re: Problems and Suggestions after Weeks of Play (Long)
Actually constitution is the most accurate name for them. Both stamina and endurance sound like parts of a fatigue subsystem, caused by slapping two phonebooks together at arms length for an hour to simulate 10 minutes of swinging a sword in full armor. Constitution does not have the sound of someth...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
My suggestion would be that you are back to a 3e type situation for the attack. And most of us would prefer that there is some rule actually in DCCRPG that says what to do and thus we are not reduced to consulting other gaming books for an answer. "How do I trip an opponent" is not so eso...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
I vote for this. It is both simple and consistent with the rules. (I take it that of course you don't add the luck burn to damage like you would with MDoAs!) And it makes sense to give Thieves and Halflings this little advantage: Unless I misunderstood what you wrote here.... You cannot 'burn' luck...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes
Hmm, so we need a Not-So-Mighty Deed Of Arms... This has always been an issue with the MDoA rules. It excludes all other classes from doing anything mundanely cool in combat. Other games would solve this by having drama dice or something similar. The "standard" d20 rules for such things a...

Re: Cleric Sacrifice???
A sacrifice should be a ceremony that requires an altar dedicated to your deity. It should require expended accoutrements that are not included in the "value" of the sacrifice (incense, candles, virgins, etc) that are in keeping with the deity's portfolio. And finally it should require TIM...

Re: Class Conversions for DCC
To me this is way, way more powerful than the warrior. The MDoA stuff is the warrior's schtick. If you are thinking about making a class with MDoA ability, do not. Just use the warrior and call yourself a "tribesman". Your tribesman also has rage. That should be his main schtick. You have ...

I houseruled so far to allow a Save to characters for each stat loss, at the end of a quest: if they pass, the stat loss is recovered fully. If not, 1 point is permanently lost. Re: Character Improvement Options
@Collin: Amusing, but again, if there is no risk, there's no reason to roll the dice. DMs who have characters roll dice to see if their characters can tie their shoes are highly annoying. I suppose some of my game theory on die rolls is heavily influenced by RISUS . It's a full system in 6 pages. We...

Re: Character Improvement Options
The DC's are set just out of reach of the average character... Calling DC5 "easy" is the one huge, glaring mistake I see in this game. DC5 is easy in 3rd and 4th Ed D&D because a fully-trained 1st level character can't fail (3rd Ed: 4 ranks + minimum d20 roll of 1 hits a DC5; 4th Ed: ...
