Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA

Not really sure where to put this random thought, but it doesn't seem to need its own thread and we are hopefully about to get a higher level cleric spell... We've found that a -1 (or spell level) penalty for every attempted spell or lay-on-hands use is pretty harsh on the cleric. Instead I've inst...

Re: Alternate physical levels

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. There aren't enough levels in the Beta to really see the long-term effects of Ability Score attrition, also not enough levels to test some sort of stat Increase. I do want to see the characters get stronger & smarter as they gain levels, and I'm not ...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

I have been toying with the following idea for corruption, but it requires more book keeping for the character. You have a corruption chart with three columns on it. For sake of argument, it is Minor, Lesser and Greater corruption. (use a d10) + luck so there are 15 results on the chart (-2 to 13 to...

Re: Alternate physical levels

I have a question...

Why are people into stat increases?

What does it honestly add to the DCC RPG game?

This is not intended to be inflammatory, but an honest question on what it brings to the game.

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

You experience is far different than our experience with DCC RPG. I will have to say an Ogre at the front door is pretty brutal to begin with, but (nothing against the players) is it a problem with one of the following: First of all, is the adventure out of scale for the party? Yes, DCC is not about...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

you cannot use it to: adjust crit rolls damage hp rolls It is fairly tight on what you can use it for to prevent abuse of the system. why not dmg? It's a choice... if you burn on the attack roll you have an increased chance of dealing some damage. If you burn for dmg, you deal more dmg in the event...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

I believe that 'burning luck' can only be used for the following (I could not find the posts on it, so this is from memory). Combat 'to-hit' roll Saving Throw Skill Checks you cannot us it to: adjust crit rolls damage hp rolls It is fairly tight on what you can use it for to prevent abuse of the sys...

Re: Gamestation Dice came today and I am sad

Thanks for the tip. I will NOT order Gamestation dice. Other dice companies can make quality dice without cuts & molding issues. They cant?? They only replaced 2 dice? Thats not good customer service at all. Can you put up some pics of the dice?? I ordered pre-inked dice from them and they came...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

I am not really crazy about the corruption system. I would like to see it removed or limited to certain "forbiden" magic. As pointed out before, without the corruption system the entire Wizard spell casting mechanic comes apart at the wheels. That is the only thing from keeping a Wizard f...

Re: 3d6, in order

Maybe, but I think that folks are putting a lot of weight on something that is supposed to be light and fluffy. Occupation doesn't have a lot of lasting impact in the game. What it does is mostly give flavors to the level-0 dudes at the onset, but this becomes quickly overshadowed once they choose ...

Re: 3d6, in order

One thing to remember is that all of the numbers in DCC are compresses closer together. AC's are not has high as in prior versions. Saving Throw bonuses are not as high either. Everything is tighter together... so a bonus from a stat has a far larger impact than in prior editions of d20 type games. ...

Re: 3d6, in order

That's why I will make my players roll over their scores. If you have negative modifiers it will be easy to boost your way out of them. If you are already "heroic" you will have a hard time ever increasing them. For what it's worth, my game will be doing the same. And if this isn't in cor...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

I don't think a thief is "supposed" to burn his luck only on the thief skills. thief using his luck bonus die on attacks would not make them a super fighter. Why? fighters get a d3, d4, d5 etc for all their attacks without burning luck, plus mighty deed of arms, so a thief burning his luc...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption

Any chance of corruption greater than a 1 (with the way corruption works currently), would be disastrous in a long term campaign.

It would make the wizard completely unplayable by 99% of the gamers out there.

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

You've dropped down to 2 Str, man up and go questing for the elixir that would restore it. Or change your tactics so you don't only rely on Str all the time. If it's Luck - get bonded to some wizard's Patron and try for a boon - every bit helps. Use it to seed further adventure rather than blubbing...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

But if DCC is intent on keeping the level distinction, then it should matter beyond just what DC a character needs to beat to not forget a spell. And I think it should matter significantly. As it stands, a Wizard would be dumb to cast a higher level spell when he's got a 1st level spell he can use ...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

I'd either scale the spells appropriately or get rid of the concept of spell levels entirely and break down the spells into tiers. 1. There would be spells that needed a 12 or better to cast at their minimum effectiveness. Like the spells in the Beta. Only a larger variety of them. Note that someth...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

Since we are just brainstorming... How about something like this: 1. Spell levels will be reclassified 1-10 2. If casting a spell from a spell > your character level, normal DCC casting rules apply with the chance of corruption automatically increasing on a natural 1+level difference between spell c...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption

So on average, he will be able to cast his starting six spells a total of 7 times. I'm talking about the insanity of using "magic" to start with. It fails 40+% of the time. That's crazy. What tool do you use of a continuing basis that fails outright (and can't be used again) for 24-hours ...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption

It would almost make sense to lower that higher end power of some of the starter spells. On those spells, change the failure results to something like: 1-6: Casting fails, lose spell. 7-14: Casting succeeds, lose spell. 15-18: Casting succeeds, keep spell. 19-22: Casting succeeds with better effect...

Re: Critical Hits and Burning Luck

It also creates problems about which modifier to apply: the untouched one, or the post-burn? EG : John has 13 (+1) Luck, and burns 1 point. It's Luck is now 12(+0). Burning on rolls that already have luck modifier applied makes sense only if AFTER the roll, and like i said i would try to find a way...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

I didn't consider burning luck to help with a disable traps skill. I guess a low level thief would have to burn about that much to get a solid bonus to make him comfortable at disarming a trap (giving him at level one, a +25 to 100% bonus. Although, I probably would have burned three, giving me 15 ...

Re: Idea: Remove most negative penalties from DCCRPG

I could see that statement holding water at level 1, but not at higher levels for warriors/dwarfs. The warriors and dwarfs wouldn't be using the smaller dice to attack. And like most things in the game, you have to survive to 5th level before you can do those amazing criticals. A warrior uses a d20...

Re: Idea: Remove most negative penalties from DCCRPG

R Increased critical hits are offset by increased fumbles. Fumbles generally hurt more than critical hits so I fail to see a problem with this. . I actually disagree with this statement. Take a look at the Critical hit table for a fifth level fighter and tell me that the fumbles are worse than crit...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks

This came up in my playtest. One of the players commented on the permanent loss of luck for a +1 not being a good trade. Getting some Luck back from the GM would help out some. So would getting Luck points when you gain a level. I agree with those who want to keep Luck from modifying opponent's die...
