"Tales from the Magician's Skull" -- taking submissions?

Post by finarvyn »

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I'm curious as to whether Tales from the Magician's Skull is taking story submissions? If so, anyone know the process?

I ask because my son is trying to start a career as an author. He wants to start with a novel, but I think that short stories are the best way to begin in the field and I'm not sure how many Swords & Sorcery style magazines are out there.

I don't know the answer to that -- I'd guess it'd be in the issues themselves, of which I have none (at the present).

But I'd think the best way would be to write things, long, short, or otherwise, and just get them out there in whatever way possible. I think plenty of writers are working on multiple things that are in different stages of development, all simultaneously.

The answer is "no" and "yes."

I asked Howard Jones that question myself, and he said that right now he has enough submissions just from people he knows, but at some point in the future it will probably be opened up to submissions.

Thanks for the info. My plan is to continue to encourage him to write lots of stuff, and I'll keep an eye out to see if open submissions become a thing at some point. 8)
