Zulvar Hedik grew up in a small surface village in Stenian territory. The main purpose of the village's existence was the coal mine that it was situated on top of and his father is still a miner there. As a child he had little to look forward to aside from growing up to be a miner by day and drink at the only local tavern at night. While he had no objections to this lifestyle (his father instilled in him a good work ethic and he did have a certain way with the ladies), Zulvar never developed the physique necessary of a miner. Luckily, when he was fifteen, he developed a talent for sorcery. Upon learning to control his newfound powers, Zulvar realized that this could be his way to experience an exciting life. His parents noticed his enthusiasm and encouraged him to pursue these abilities. Shortly after his seventeenth birthday he signed on as a mercenary guard to a passing caravan and has led a fairly martial life since. Though he is extremely professional about any duties he is charged with by his employers, he does chafe a bit when he encounters employers or superiors whom he describes as "needing to take the stick out of their ass" and loves to cut loose when off duty. Originally he often acquired employment less on the merits of his magical talent but more because of his familiar (an owl whom he named Stonedodger for his tendency to go hunting during a lunar rain and return unscathed) and its usefulness as a scout. Zulvar's talents have improved, though, and his exploit of boarding and taking control of a bandit mech by himself attracted the attention of the Stenian military, whom he has worked with since, now at the age of 20. He has spent time aboard several city mechs, and though he does appreciate the hospitality aboard them he has been known to complain (in good humor) about the physical difficulties of fitting his 6'1" 190 lb body into passages and rooms made to the proportions of dwarves. But the pay is decent and the lifestyle is sufficiently "exciting" for him, so he accepts it as a necessary discomfort.

A general phisical description of my character:

Zulfar Hedik is six feet and one inch tall and weighs 190 pounds. As such, he has a medium build but is generally unspectacular from a purely physical standpoint. His skin is a light tan and his dark brown hair is typically left loose and falls just short of his shoulder blades. He has brown eyes and usually has facial hair that varies from a slight five o'clock shadow to a short, somewhat scruffy looking beard (he only gets around to shaving about once a week). If encountered away from a city mech or a settlement he appears at first glance to be a simple traveler, wearing loose fitting brown leather pants, a loose long sleeved green shirt, a leather vest matching his pants, and a pale green hooded cloak. A dagger sits in a sheath at his right hip and a light crossbow is normally slung over his head and left shoulder, resting against a traveler's backpack, with a case of bolts at his left hip. Considering the potential dangers of the world these days he appears to be quite lightly armed and vulnerable, but that doesn't keep him from walking confidently (even with a slight slight swagger and a small smile, often humming some tune or another) wherever he goes (mainly because he trusts his charm and good looks to avoid most difficult situations and his magic to handle others). Upon meeting new people, Zulvar typically greets them politely and often even offers a quick bow; in most situations his politeness is genuine, but if he has reason to not trust those he greets he will be calmly alert and might even bluff up a reason to excuse himself quickly and discourage others from following him. He rarely informs others up front that he is a sorceror unless he sees a specific reason(usually "work related" reasons), often preferring to let strangers underestimate him instead. When out alone he is rarely surprised to run into somebody because Stonedodger (his owl familiar, who he often refers to as "Stoney")is usually someplace overhead and keeping alert for anything interesting nearby. When Zulvar is indoors, his familiar is usually either perched on his shoulder or outside hunting or simply "hanging around" (the latter occurs quite often when Zulvar is aboard a city mech, as Stonedodger generally dislikes such cramped environments).

If encountered while he's "on the job," Zulvar often still appears confident but isn't likely to be swaggering or humming as much as generally staying alert and focusing on whatever task is at hand. He may not always to choose the "standard" method of performing such tasks but applies himself earnestly nonetheless.

If encountered in a more leisurely setting, such as a tavern or such, Zulvar will almost definitely be smiling and seeking friendly conversation with anybody willing, particularly if they're an attractive female. Though not a serious gambler, he frequently joins low stakes games of chance simply as a way to strike up some interaction and have a good time. In such surroundings he always seeks to be friendly and avoid conflict ("Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know she had a boyfriend. Let me buy you a drink.") and will even step in and attempt to mediate potentially violent disputes between others, but if he does get drawn into a serious fight he rarely backs down (a few folks have, much to their displeasure, discovered his magical talents under such circumstances).
