XCrawl in Starfinder?

In XCC, you're a superstar athlete taking your chances in a live-on-pay-per-view death sport. It’s a modern-day world with a fantasy twist, and the game is simple: the Dungeon Judge, or DJ, creates an artificial dungeon under controlled — but lethal — conditions. Can you survive?

XCrawl in Starfinder?

Post by mlshelton1975 »

Are there any plans or desires to implement a Starfinder version of XCrawl?

Maybe some kind of DJ guide to running an XCrawl themed campaign in Starfinder?

The native campaign setting makes heavy use of technomagic (meaning magic simulating advanced technology in this context), and there's nothing with wrong with using magic to simulate technology, but with Starfinder technology as the baseline for nonmagical advancement, there would be no need for technomagical broadcasting.

That being said, the professional organization itself and all DJs as self-policing entities might decide that mundane advanced technology is anathema to the sport, even when it comes to using ordinary modern audiovisual equipment for broadcasting crawls in progress, conducting interviews, player training, etc. Much the same way the Society for Creative Anachronism in the real world eschews fantasy and non-period things for their meetings and events. So even if other sports make full use of social media and mass broadcasting over the internet to do their thing, XCrawl insists on using _magic_ for everything that would be otherwise technologically anachronistic in a medieval setting.

If the native Pact Worlds setting seems incompatible with XCrawl, a supplement for Starfinder could be setting-agnostic; aside from the sport implementing technomagic for everything postmedieval.
