Session 30 Chapter Two

Post by StormPatriarch »

Session 30- All players present.

As requested, the PC names will appear before the log entry.

Knight- Hyfaidd
Mystic- Quinlan
Rager- Phalaanx
Scrub- Searlean (NPC)

The PCs awoke to a briefing the next morning. They were informed that a party had been sent to the farm magically the previous night as promised. That party’s bodies arrived by recall device a few hours later. Damage evidence on the bodies indicated weapons and claws or talons. No evidence was returned so the conclave concluded that they could not petition the government for the disbanding of the new temple at this time. The conclave does believe that this new temple may not be an actual temple of the god it professes based on the glyphs found on the temple entrance compared to what little is known of the gods religion. They ask the party to venture back to the farm to find out what happened. The conclave would magically send them to a ½ day journey from the farm along with 5 acolytes from the party’s faiths. The group agreed but Rager wanted to wipe out the contact that they were supposed to meet at the tram station first. The others convinced him that a fast resolution to the party’s slaughter was more important at this time.

They gathered at the transit room and were ported out as promised. They landed in a farms grazing field. Rager waved to the stunned farmer who promptly fainted. After the acolytes finished getting sick, they moved out. The PCs decided to ride walk in on foot (except for Knight or course). The farm appeared to be deserted. In the open space in front of the main living quarters, the remains of the investigation/ purification party were found. Knight found out that one of his acolytes was previously a hunter and was a good tracker. He was then ordered to search the area for clues on what attacked, how many and from where. Mystic and Rager decided to investigate the main house. Mystic tried to kick the front door down (he noticed it had been heavily damaged by weapons and claws/talons. After a few kicks, he called over Rager who destroyed it with a sharp blow from his ax. He realized a large cupboard had been bracing it. His ax had smashed a hole into it as well. He also heard a faint whimper. He reached through and opened the cupboards doors from the inside. Through that, he could see that the room was very dark but a faint outline of a figure was under the kitchen table against the wall. He asked that the person come forth before he came in there and killed them. The figure started to cry. Rager moved the cupboard (cast a spell to bump his feats of strength and then rolled). He called in Scrub to try to calm the person. As soon as the person saw her, he started to scream and tried to dig his way out through the wall. Rager called for one of the Knight’s acolytes to come and try to calm the small boy down.

Meanwhile, Mystic entered the house and searched the rest of the ground floor. Nothing of note was found. He then moved up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Here he found many bodies of the farmers and that all the windows and been destroyed. As he searched he found a very large feather under one of the bodies. He sent his acolyte to the tracker with the feather for identification.

Knight decided to ride around the building to see if there were any other entrances. He found the back door had similar damage as the front did before it was destroyed.

Rager noticed the quick departure of Mystic’s acolyte, so he headed up stairs to see what was going on. That’s when the attack came. Outside Rager’s acolytes came under attack from 3 harpies while Knight was surprised by 2 behind the house. One acolyte was carried off though the party did try to stop him from being taken.

The battle was pretty tough on the group since they had few ranged weapons. Knight was bemused by the harpy’s song right as he made it to the courtyard. Thankfully his compatriots noticed and reinforced his resilience pool. Knight used his helmet as a personal bell to help drown out the siren song after that. All the others started chanting and screaming as loudly as they could to help drown it out. Later in the battle, Knight was entranced a second time but Rager noticed and cast a spell to bump his resilience again. Mystic used a spell to enhance his sword damage to devastating effect (he would hit with enough force to knock the harpies out of the sky, opening them up to second attacks). Of the five harpies in on the attack, three were killed, one fled and the other flew off with the acolyte at the beginning. Mystic took the brunt of the physical damage and Knight took most of the magical damage.

Game ended here (we had a late start do to technical difficulties). Fight took a little longer than usual since it was the first time I had used this many aerial attackers in a combat versus walkers and horseman. The system handled it fine though.

You're making me want to play this game! ;-)

Would you be interested in playtesting Eric Bergeron's new campaign-centric edition of the game? If so, you know where to reach me, old friend.
