Vote to add the d50 in 2012 to the DCC RPG supplement

Post by Kruvil »

Just saw the d50. This die should be added to the DCC RPG in the 2012 release I think. If you agree, please post +d50.

+d50.

(And the need for a 1-50 actually came up at NTRPG!)

But I draw the line at d100. Rolled that sucker once in '82 and it still hasn't stopped spinning.

I have no issues whatsoever with more funky dice being added to future game expansions. The d34 looks especially attractive in that it is reasonably priced.

But I didn't see a picture for the d34 on the website. (Maybe my computer is just retarded.)

Harley, I agree with your issues with the d100 and wonder if even the d34 and d50 might have too many sides to be useful. I think that the d30's I have are big and round and have small sides, so adding even more might reach that "diminishing return" which the d100 has already passed. :P

I fail to see what a d34 or d50 would be useful for. They don't help with die scaling:

d3/d4/d5/d6/d7 (+1 increment tier)
d8/d10/d12/d14/d16 (+2 increment tier)
d20/d24/d28?/d32?/d36? (hypothetical +4 incremenet tier)

For initiative, I might use d20 or d16 for two-handed weapons with warriors using d24 or d20 and at 10th level warriors use d34 or two-handed d30. Harley mentioned needing a d50 once but he didn't give specifics.

In fairness, it was very session specific. Definitely not essential to the core rules.

The PCs were midway though their assault on the citadel of the ice giants, when they came across the Horned King, entranced upon his chalky throne. One PC threw his lots in with the master of the Wild Hunt and another PC slew him in retaliation.

Not to be dissuaded, the Horned King raised his fallen servant with a touch. I still wanted the player in the game so I asked him to play the undead revenant. When he asked how many hp he now had, I told him to roll 1d100 and divide by two. But it would have been so much more dramatic to be able to smack a d50 down on the table.

The only use I've ever heard of for the d34 is to roll 3d34-2 to get a 1-100 result with a curve. The implication was that there was a game out there that used such a result, but I have no idea what it is...
