DCC World Tour... in Europe?

Post by lagrippe »

The latest announcement about the DCC RPG 2013 World Tour got me thinking: will we poor European saps get a chance to jump on the proverbial bandwagon, run some games and earn some loot?

The collector in me thinks that all that cool swag floating around (especially the DCC RPG adventures designed for the occasion), without me having a chance to get my grubby little hands on them, just... will... not... do!

Sorry man! It's the cost of postage, that's all. Nothing personal. I really like Europe. :)

So, what parts of the world does it actually cover?

I was going to run a demo DCC game once a month in 2013 at my FLGS in The Netherlands. It would be great if Goodman Games would support the Europeans who want to spread the DCC game.

Is the DCC World tour only for north americans?

I guess that it is a World Tour in the same sense as the World Series

I know all too well the bankrupting insanity of shipping costs across the pond, but it really would be a pity if the European fans got left out of such a cool initiative because of them…

Maybe offer a separate reward ladder for participants outside the US, with emphasis on lighter (and thus cheaper to mail) items? Could that work? (Pretty please?)

Shipping to Europe is very expensive. Even for small items. And sometimes quite slow and unpredictable, even for small shipments. The only way I can imagine a Europe World Tour support program working is if the Road Crew folks paid for shipping (which I don't want...not really fair to charge them) or if we come up with some digital option. And I'm not sure what that would be.

I was REALLY looking forward to be part of this. I'm willing to give up my time every month to bring the DCC game to new fans. I don't mind getting the stuff in one batch, or if it is sent via surface mail. Please try & make it work for the European faithful.

Crimson Tree, where are you in the NL? Maybe PS Games would be willing to help out if they are the distributor there for DCC. They used to send me all sorts of Wizards of the Coast related swag when I was helping a retailor in Amsterdam back in 2007. Besides 999 Games (of which only do board games) PS was the largest game related company/distributor there at the time. The rest were either from the UK (terrible exchange rates usually) or DE/FR. If you get a distributor on board to help absorb shipping costs it would be difficult to exclude our friends on the other side of the pond... :)

I'm based in Friesland. I don't know who the DCC distributor is in The Netherlands. I've not seen any DCC books in the Dutch game stores I've been to. I buy my DCC books online from Germany & the UK.

DriveThruRPG print on demand? They seem to have quite reasonable shipping fees to Europe.

That's true, and it's because they use Lightning Source, just like Lulu, and Lightning Source has a POD branch in the UK (so it's most often shipped from there rather than the US).

Maybe the adventures could be made available as downloadable pdfs at some point? That would be a nice nod to us European folk. Otherwise I agree, sending the swag over the ocean doesn't sound feasible, although it saddens me a little as a collector of all things DCC.

Offering PDFs of the adventures would be great, but for me they wouldn't replace paper copies, particularly if they're limited, one-off editions, not to be made available commercially later (as I assume will be the case). In fact, I would be more than happy to pay the shipping costs myself for the adventures!

As for the swag, Skar's suggestion of getting a distributor to participate in the event might be worth looking into (I also agree that it isn't reasonable to ask GG to pay for individual shipping costs to overseas fans). Does anyone have an idea if this feasible, and, if so, what steps need to be taken?

I set up a donation website. Europeans donate. I buy plane ticket. A kind European agrees to house me for a week or so. I pick up all goodies from Goodman Games along with shipping info. I fly over and bring all goodies a little later this year. Kind European assists with mailing goodies across continent. The entire European fan base is happy, and I get a vacation to the Old World.

I will also GM for food... French food.

I video much of my experience. Later, I sign an agreement with Goodman Games to use the story as a marketing tool. The edited version goes viral on YouTube. I'm asked to appear on all the major talk shows along with a few cameos in sitcoms. I represent DCC like a boss. Revenue soars as DCC is discovered by the masses. The pilgrimage to Europe becomes an annual tradition (new person each year). DCC single-handedly brings the global economy out of recession. There's peace in the Middle East. Cancer is cured.

Yes?

I'd fly in to Scotland to do the same.....Hey! Maybe this could be a sort of "Judge's funnel" where we start off with 20 or so would-be European judges, and then throw monsters at them until only a few remain........

Hi!

I'll be running some games in Spain (Madrid), just in case anyone is interested...

And yes, I wouldn't mind paying the shipping costs to Europe.

Any progress on involving the non-US fans? It would be cool if the World Tour was actually a World Tour.

Based on the lack of response, this probably means that the World tour is not applicable to the non-American fans. Such a shame. :(

For those who didn't already see it - we now offer an international World Tour option. We charge actual cost for postage; the swag is free. The cheapest method we've found (so far) is to pack 3 games' worth of swag into one shipment. For more info see the link below. Hopefully this helps the non-USA folks run some games!

And, as a side note, the Tower Out of Time offer is open worldwide -- since it is a PDF there is no postage cost issue.
