One thing I noticed is that over time the dwarves, hobbits and elves have really changed and not for the better(IMHO). They seemed to be more like fairy folk...less human.

Also, much of todays modern rpg art, besides looking awful, lacks something special...the story/mystery told within the art. The art below has that mystery to it and a story to be told...

Folks, I'm too tired today to figure out how to add the photo I want.

So, instead do an Internet search for the Milton Bradley board game Dark Tower. The artwork on the cover of the box is a wonderful summery for me.

Edit:

Here it is:

Machpants -- that second one is probably my favorite of all time. Good memories about the first one too.

Honestly, it was this picture that I cut out of my very first box of Dwarven Forge material back when I was about 12 sometime around 2001 or so. This really opened a whole new world for me because prior to seeing this I could only imagine things like this existed. I stared at that picture imagining everything that led up to the point where those heroes became surrounded. I still have that cutout and still love to look at it.

Maybe frame that cut out or laminate it? Display it on a wall...as 'something' really special to you?

I guess I've had far too much fun playing many, many games for there to be a single image that captures it all.

e.g., I can't find any any dungeonsanddragonscallofcthulhuchampionsshadowrungammaworldcyberpunkstoryboardstarwarsstartrekhomebrewfriendslaughingtheirheadsoff images...

Google search pulled up no documents. It did however pull up an ad for a cheap apartment in Cambodia.

Ian Miller and John Blanche are the primary two of many Britpunk Fantasy artists that fired my imagination in the eighties. No one does weird fantasy like that lot.

Yep, you are right. I need to think about doing something neat with it.
