Decent Pics of Halflings, Anyone?

Post by Colin »

I've got a huge collection of appropriate fantasy art on my HD, downloaded over a handful of years, but the one thing that seems really lacking is a good assortment of decent pics of halfling characters. Sure, I keep finding fan pics of the hobbits from LotR, but they are always too recognizable. The question is, do folks know of any good fantasy-style, DCC-appropriate pics of furry-footed halflings online, please? They seem very sparse on the ground.

Slim pickings, unfortunately; the concept of "halfling" seems to have been ridden over roughshod by the 3e-style microhumans. Not much worthwhile on deviantart, conceptart, CGTalk, or CGHub either. :(

HackMaster's halflings are usually quite old-school too, with hairy feet.

And don't forget to check out Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. :)

Brendon and Brian Fraim. They did a lot of art for HackMaster, especially for 4th edition.

I think Elmore pretty much redefined the Halfling in my books :)

A couple years ago, most OSR halfling were depicted as about to be eaten by a monster or lying dead at the bottom of a pit trap.

Ugh. I love some of Elmore's older works (he does great snowy landscapes), but this particular pic is something I don't; the whole 3e-style "microelves/microhumans" redefinition of halflings in 3e was not a good thing, imo.

I'm pretty sure that was the trend before 3e -- but yes.

To the defense of one of my favorite artists: are we sure that pictures isn't a half-elf?

Perspective suggests her eyes might easily be below the windowsill...

It's supposed to be Lidda, the 3e iconic halfling rogue. There was a lot of discussion about the pic when it appeared on Dragon.

I can see that perspective makes the girl pictured either quite small, or the house built for a giant...

That picture was in Dragon? Do you know which issue? I'd like to see if I can get a look at it to satisfy my curiosity as to whether it was intended as a) a half-elf sneaking into a giant's place to rob a bit of treasure, or b) Lidda with exactly zero of the descriptive details that make Lidda... well, Lidda (those being braided hair, leather armor, a pack loaded with stuff, and a dagger - the picture shown having none of those).

I swear I remember seeing that picture someone in the run of 2nd edition... I'll look around and see i I can find it.
