Kurr nods and offers his spike (and anything else required) to aid the clan. A stern glance at his three companions indicates that he expects no less of them.

Grump, Dead Rabbit and Barbul, fingers numb with cold, find themselves clinging 50' above the permafrost between a pair of circular openings in the glacier face, spaced 30' apart.

Wisps of green vapor waft from the round holes, each measuring about 5' in diameter.

Do you spike the rope where you are, or near one of the holes?

"Which way should we go in?" asks Dead Rabbit.

Barbul replies, "Don't know. Maybe we try the left. Spike the rope next to it and I'll take a look inside." [Barbul has halfling infravision]. "Hang onto me while I peek in."

Dead Rabbit calls down, "Are the rest of you coming up or are you expecting us to carry you?"

OOC: Every time I hear something like that I think of this: https://youtu.be/fz8pXp6af0I?t=2m53s Just kidding. :-)

Barbul, you peek in and you see that the hole is the sheared-off end of a 5' diameter tunnel completely lined with a blue-gray material resembling fired clay. It extends into the glacier, curving slightly as it goes. Between that and the green vapor, even with your infravision you can't see more than 20' inside.

If you enter, you'll need to proceed single-file.

The rest of the characters can now use the rope to ascend to the hole on the left if they like. Roll a d20 for each (adding your STR or AGI bonus whichever is higher), and let me know if anyone does NOT roll at least a 5 (and roll a d4 for those characters please).

Also, single file marching order please.

Bjorn Bear-Mother grabs the rope and begins her ascent abruptly... d20 Agi=18
...followed by Kurr, Myrna, and Blackfeet
Kurrr: d20 Agi=7 Myrna: d20 Agi=20 Blackfeet: d20 +1Agi=17

Upon reaching the top, Kurr motions Bjorn and Blackfeet to the right tunnel, while he and Myrna clamber to the left. Complying, they ready weapons in the entrance ways and await the rest to ascend

Right now, the only rope up leads to the left one. So you can go in there, or try to run another rope, or climb, to the right one...

"Come along, Dibbon." says Willoughby as he clambers up after Tarr.
Dibbon steps forward and follows.

Will. - d20 roll 20 +1 (Agi) = 21
Dib - d20 roll 7 +1 (Agi) = 8

At the left tunnel, Barbul sniffs the air coming from the tunnel [Jugde, what does it smell like?]. "Hey Rabbit, strike a spark as see if this is bad air."
As the rest of the group are making it up the rope toward the opening, Dead Rabbit and Babul change positions and Dead Rabbit uses his flint and Tinder to light a torch and underhand lob it into the tunnel opening.

Dead Rabbit is, of course, crouching right in the opening (indicative of his 6 INT).

OOC- Based on the previous postings, the marching order appears to be, from front to back,

Left Tunnel:
Dead Rabbit
Barbul
Grump
Bjorn Bear-Mother
Kurr
Myrna
Blackfeet
Krex
Bitterbrew
Cutter
Voorak
Sarkla
Tarr
Willoughby
Dibbon
Telva

Does anyone want to split off and have a go at the right tunnel?
Also, please feel free to alter the order (I'm not touchy about being in front or back if someone wants to change the positions of my PCs).

The torch sputters normally, seemingly unaffected by the air in the tunnel. The mist smells vaguely to you like hot smoke, but it is nothing like the smoke of your campfires...

Since the lit torches are all nearer the front, Tarr will light a torch of his.

All my four have weapons ready.

Telva pays particular attention to listening to the rear of the group as we advance, and is shooting regular looks back, too.

Dead Rabbit (lead position) at the front has a torch in one hand and his club in the other.
Willoughby passes his 10' pole up to to Barbul who is in position 2.
Barbul takes the wolf pup out of the small sack and feeds his a bit of dried meat.

Willoughby is holding his spear and Dibbon has his knife in one hand and a torch in the other.

Dead rabbit moves gingerly forward, squeezing to the side after every 3 steps to allow Barbul to prod the floor of the tunnel ahead with the 10' pole looking for pressure plates, loose patches of ice, or trip wires.

As you head down the cramped tunnel, all of you but the halfling has to hunch over due to the conditions inside.

The green mist eerily flickers 20' ahead of you as it reflects the light of your torches back at you like a fog as you make your way.

All is silent, as the tunnel seems to curve steadily to the right.

It occurs to you that if something or someone does come out of the mist, there certainly isn't much room to maneuver.

After you have made your way about 50' Dead Rabbit stops suddenly, hearing something ahead.

Then you all hear it. A distinct scuttling sound, getting louder, and coming in your direction...

"Well," says Dead Rabbit glancing back at the mass of adventurers packed in behind him, "Looks like there's only one way to go."

With a bellow, he sprints forward (Speed: 30) in the hopes of finding a side-passage or a more maneuverable space before encountering whatever is approaching.

Barbul clicks his tongue at his wolf pup and together they pad (Speed: 20) after Dead Rabbit, hoping to find a way to avoid whatever is making the noise up ahead.

OOC - I spend some time digging in the core rulebook, but didn't see anything about how running affects movement speed - does it? Either way, both these characters are hauling ass up the corridor looking for a way to hide, barricade, or otherwise escape from whatever is headed their way.

Dr. Meat wrote:OOC - I spend some time digging in the core rulebook, but didn't see anything about how running affects movement speed - does it?
OOC: Here's how it works. It's not like D&D based upon "running" per se (where I think you can double move and attack?)... you can still double move but that's all you can do that round.

Actions (p 77)
A character has one or more actions each round, expressed as action dice. Most characters have one action die, which is a d20. Higher-level characters may have two or more actions, expressed as action dice, such as d20+d16. Each round, a character or monster may move its normal speed and do one thing for each of its action dice. The actions a character takes depend on his class. All characters can take another movement for their actions.

Movement (p 77)
Humans and elves move 30’ per action. Dwarves and halflings move 20’ per action. If characters are encumbered with metal armor or a heavy load, they move more slowly.

NOTE that you can CHARGE without having to use a double move; provided you move at least 1/2 your base movement rate in a round...

Charge: A reckless character can use 1 action to declare a charge. In order to charge, he must move at least half his speed. A charging character gains +2 bonus to attack rolls but suffers a -2 penalty to AC until his next turn.

Dead Rabbit, Barbul (and pup), Grump and Bjorn run ahead, appearing to the others as if they've disappeared into the mist.

After about 30', Dead Rabbit sees three glowing objects coming at him about 25' ahead.

Squinting, he realizes that the glowing objects are oval-shaped plates of some kind, radiating tremendous heat, each one jutting from the top of the head of a 2' long centipede-like creature!

Seeing Dead Rabbit, two of the creatures lower their heads as if to ram him with their super-hot bony extremities!

Dead Rabbit, what do you do? If you choose to attack, please indicate your target, roll INIT, to hit and damage. NOTE: Do not add any Agility bonuses in the tunnel.

Barbul, Grump and Bjorn, you can see what's going on, but as this is a single file tunnel, you're behind Dead Rabbit for now...

Dead Rabbit, seeing these two creatures approaching (and assuming they are smaller than he is, perhaps?) immediately drops his torch and club and attempts to grapple the first one to get within arms' reach and fall to the ground. Hopefully, he can avoid the heated head...

You (still) win INIT! The centipede creatures hesitate ever so slightly and you grapple the first one...

It rolls 5, which does NOT beat Dead Rabbit's 3 +4 bonus due to his being more than 2X it's size... first one is pinned.

The second one, however, barrels into Dead Rabbit's rib cage with its superheated bone plate (13 to hit, 5 damage). Flesh and blood vaporize, ribs crackle and burn. Dead Rabbit's dying scream echoes down the tunnel, as does the smell of burning flesh...

With Bjorn looming ready above him, Barbul bares his teeth, a mirror image of the wolf pup at his feet. He drops the pole to the tunnel floor, draws his club, and plants his feet.

Barbul is still closest... his club meets bone, jerking the second bug monsters head sharply to the left with a CRACK but leaving it standing.

Grump and Bjorn look for an opening but Barbul and the wolf pup are still in their way.

The first bug disengages his head from Dead Rabbit's corpse and both the first and second launch forward, exposing a row of jagged teeth. Barbul tries to block their bites with his club, but can't block both of them... he takes 3 hp damage from a nasty bite.
