The Revelation of Mulmo PBP - WARNING SPOILERS

Sufferus enters the room with glee.

"This is fantastic. Some sort of experiment is probably taking place here." He looks about, careful however not to touch anyone or anything, for fear of catching something.

Maledict, on the other hand, is horrified. "What sort of evil...? We must take these poor souls out of their misery. But healing or by death."

"Hush", says brother Sufferus, barely taking note of the knight's comment. "Let me concentrate."

"May be, Brother Sufferus,' says Yoros, "we can get our bearings by helping these Dwarves, perhaps. You heal them -- they help us..."

Brother Sufferus frowns, visibly irritated. "Instead of stating the first absurd thought to cross your mind, be silent. Pain is redemption. You must embrace it, as they must embrace it. Trying to avoid pain is the path towards eternal damnation."

"Then let us avoid this space and leave them to their salvation for now. Let us remain damned until we can save our friends." says Han as he strides forward and checks the design of the stairs, looking out for more danger.

Maledict remains close to Han, ready for anything. He looks at the dwarves, thinking about the grim job that he might come to have to do. "Give me the strength, if need be, Lady Blackrush..."

Meanwhile Sufferus does not even look at the thief as he continues to inspect the room, still careful not to touch anything.

Some work/home things came up, and I haven't been able to pay as much attention to online gaming as I should over the last couple of days. I will be posting tomorrow.

Cages with dead and decayed fowl, cots, flies, and chained dwarves are all. Truly, with the amount of flesh eaten away by the sores on their bodies, it is a wonder that the moaning dwarves are still moving at all.

There is no sign of any trap discernible from the top of the stairs. Flies buzz occasionally from this room to the one above, and into the darkness below.

They may well not be. Do you have any specific test in mind?

Do they breathe? Do their eyes move? Do their fingers twitch? Does it seem that their bodies and organs are nests for the maggots?

If he thinks that they are indeed dead, could it be that they are... un-dead? Or otherwise somehow hosts for the maggots? Bile rises in his mouth as Brother Sufferus thinks about this possibility. This seems like something quite different then he initially thought. He grasps the Scourge of the Maimed One, unfurls it for the first time in weeks. The multiple tails of the whip dangle from his fingers, like living appendages, the handle landing in the palm of his hand without him even looking. His skin tingles, he can feel his numerous scars stretch, and he lets out a lustful sigh as the memory of self-inflicted pain courses through his veins, triggered by the feeling of the Scourge.

Well, they definitely twitch, and their eyes seem to move beneath their lids, and they moan, so they breath....but with observation, Brother Sufferus concludes that they only breath when they moan.

Anything unusual about the next set of stairs down?

Apparently not. Some flies drift downward, and some up, but you have probably located the source of them.....being the rotting flesh of the chained and probably un-dead dwarves.

Brother Sufferus thinks about his options. These creatures could well serve the Maimed One, if need be.

"Let us leave these bodies to their decaying fate. They are not part of the living anymore."

And matter-of-factly, he moves towards the stairs where the others wait. "After you."

Maledict accepts the invitation and strolls downward.

The spiral staircase leads downward into a level filled with piles of bones. There are the bones of perhaps 200 skeletons in this room, each meticulously sorted into separate piles of various bones – all the skulls over here, all the fourth vertebrae over there, left scapulae in a pile not far from right scapulae, and so on. The bones seem to be mostly those of elves, but there are also bones of men and dwarves. There are many flies here. You can still hear the pitiful moaning of the (un-dead?) dwarves from above. The stair continues downward.

"This seems less and less like a place where life returns to anything." Han checks the next set of stairs.

Yoros wanders partway into the array of bones (assuming there is a 'aisle' between the stacks). He's looking for anything strange(r) - like sign of a trapdoor beneath a pile, or glint of something hidden within a pile, and so on.

Yoros finds nothing unusual in the bones, save for their existence.

Han finds nothing unusual about the stairs.

Unless Maledict and the good Brother object, we continue down, Han first, Yoros second...

You follow the stairs downward, to a room which contains several piles of crates, and a few barrels and kegs. There are four doors equidistant around the walls, which appear as though they could simply be pushed open. A spiral staircase wrought of
bronze descends to the depths below.

Maledict looks into the kegs and crates, not touching anything if he can avoid it.

It is impossible to look into the crates, kegs, and barrels without touching them, as they are sealed. Opened, they all contain foodstuffs of various types. Three of the kegs contain a good stout beer, and two barrels contain 30 gallons of wine each. None of it appears to be particularly valuable.
