Oki. Sufferus remains on his knees for one hour or more, whipping himself.

(How does the Maimed One see Sufferus healing himself after that hour of sufferance? It seems counter-intuitive to me, but I'll let you make the call. The reason I ask if because the disapproval result didn't actually involve damage to the cleric; I just saw it as kind of natural in the circumstances.)

You are allowed to try again.

Okay. He'll wait until his penance is done however. He's too occupied with the whip for now :)

So... the next door in the corridor? If we have a choice between left and right, we choose left. Han already rolled to unlock (see his last post).

The area has six doors - the eastern door through which you entered, two doors north and south, and one to the west. I take it from your description that you are attempting the untried southern door. Although there is clearly a locking mechanism, it opens easily when tried.

The door opens to reveal a 30-foot-square room. Five straw cots are arranged neatly along the east wall, and another five along the west wall. A clean brass chamber pot is in the southeast corner. A ceramic wash basin, now holding ten clean wooden bowls, is near the centre of the south wall.

There is a door to the north that you have not tried, and also the door to the west.

Yoros sees nothing of interest and comments that the Dwarf is getting heavier, and asks Han to come with him to check the west door.

Han does the listen/check-for-traps/unlock routine, as needed -- unless something stands out along the way and needs further consideration...

Some d20 rolls for that stuff: 4, 11, 9

Han's lucky roll is +1 to all skill checks, his Find Traps is at +9, and his Pick Lock is at +9 as well.

The western door is unlocked, and opens easily into a room 40 feet wide by 30 feet deep, with another door in the center of the north and south walls. This room appears to have been used as a workshop, for there is a forge and anvil, tables and tools, a pile of bricks, and a great many tools – picks, chisels, tongs, bellows, hammers, and the like. Each of the tables has heavy brass leg irons attached to it, so that workers could be restrained while they worked.

"Maybe we're to hammer and bellow the life back into our friends...?" suggests Han.

Yoros listens at the north door.

All seems quiet beyond the north door. Han notes that it is locked.

Han will work on the north door, while Yoros goes to listen at the south door.

Han's Find/Disable/Unlock checks: 11 (nat 1)/ 17/ 26.

Beyond the door to the north is a room is 30 feet wide and 20 feet deep. It contains stores of metal, brick, and stone, as well as additional picks, shovels, and other tools.

It seems quiet to the south.

Yoros will try the south door.

Some of us keep a healthy distance from Sufferus.

Han's distance is out ahead of the group, the better to hear if anything noisy lies ahead.

After 70 feet to the right, the passage becomes uneven as it curves slightly to the left and heads downward at a gentle angle. The stonework here is older, and there is a slightly musty smell in the air.

Maledict hears a voice whisper

Fearing nothing, downward go
The Pool of Life-Giving lies below
Ye seek now the Fane of Mulmo!

Maledict repeats the words as a child would do when tought a song.

"Fearing nothing, downward go
The Pool of Life-Giving lies below
Ye seek now the Fane of Mulmo!"

He pauses.

"Down to the Well of all wells!"

He still waits for Han to lead the way.

Hearing the sing-song, Yoros catches up to Han, hoping two sets of eyes will make things move along faster and figuring he's tough enough to face whatever he might blunder into...

Sufferus continues to follow on his knees, until it's been at least an hour and he feels repentent enough.

The passage travels about 150 feet before it empties into a room that is roughly 30 feet square, with another passage leading out of the center of the far wall. In each corner there stands a wooden statue of an elf, unarmed, but in an attitude of watchfulness. The dust is thick down here, as though this area has not been entered in a very long time.
