0-Level Character Generator
For my own amusement, I've created a script that generates a random group of 4 0-level characters. I ran it past Joseph (and Harvey), and they think the community could get some use out of it.
* The script creates a single PDF containing the 4 character cards
* After printing, you can keep the page intact, or cut into individual cards
* I believe I've included everything from the existing 0-level beta rules. If I've missed anything, let me know
* I debated adding the ability to add some non-randomness, like choosing occupations, but it's so simple to create a custom character, I'm figuring it's not worth the trouble
This was a quick weekend project, so there might be some wonkiness lurking in the digital weeds. Let me know if you notice any strangeness/errors/mistakes. I might get around to fixing them.
Access the script at:

Have fun!

Re: 0-Level Character Generator
The only drawback to this is its awesomeness.
Seriously, I can't tell you how tempted I am to generate multiple pages of this...initially just to see what it comes up with...slowly tempting me to start "picking" sets that would be "balanced" or "suitable" for funnelling...effectively giving me the dread power of Min/Max over an entire party!
Does this count as my corruption?
In all truth, very nicely done. Elegant, simple, and beautiful.

Just print out N+2 sheets (depending on the number of folks you expect to show up (and some extras)) and lay them out on the table for people to pick. (Separating the sheets into quarters ahead of time optional.) Now you have saved the 10 minutes of die rolling required at the start of the session.

No, 30% of the occupations have a race in front of the name.Lennon V. C. wrote:I think you pick a race at zero level.

Re: 0-Level Character Generator
This is very good, but it doesn't seem to apply the Birth Augur to saves or Hit Points when required.

Read the PDF carefully: Note: Lucky mods (except 'Bountiful Harvest') are not reflected in fields above since luck can change!AgeOfFable wrote:This is very good, but it doesn't seem to apply the Birth Augur to saves or Hit Points when required.

Re: 0-Level Character Generator
Sweet...thanks!!! The design looks great as well.
My first go-around I got a healer with an 18 personality and 5 intelligence (i love playing dumb zealots)...the rest were average.
In my second set of characters, my favorite was a gong farmer with a 5,6, & 7 in his non-physical stats.

Re: 0-Level Character Generator
That's just silly with awesome!
A few small nits to pick: you can only choose additional languages (other than Common and Racial [if applicable]) when you achieve first level. (Reflecting your world-weariness. ) Also it's been explained by Joseph Goodman here that 0-level demi-humans really should get their basic racial powers (infravision, etc.) at 0-level.
Otherwise...

Thanks for the heads-up! I've removed the additional language note.Ogrepuppy wrote: One small nit to pick: you can only choose additional languages (other than Common and Racial [if applicable]) when you achieve first level. (Reflecting your world-weariness. )

Re: 0-Level Character Generator
Some of the combinations are hilarious, bordering on sadistic...
Gamblers with Agility of 3 and Luck of 4, soldiers whose Intelligence is significantly higher than their single-digit Strength & Stamina, dwarven miners who can't lift their hammers or pick-axes due to severe Strength penalties, the freakishly strong little orphan girl--with rag doll--who can beat the snot out of the (not-so-rugged) woodsman, and (one of my personal favorites) the Gong Farmer whose acute Intelligence and dashing Personality (and woeful Stamina) suggest he should have been smart and charismatic enough to find a better job than shoveling sh!+ all his life!
Hugh sent me....LOL

Still, it might be an idea to have something like "Reflex +1 (+3 with current Luck)"

You know there is an all 18 PC waiting to be "rolled up." But I'm betting he's a gong farmer.

Re: 0-Level Character Generator
I just added, as a secondary option, the ability to create characters using 4d6, dropping the lowest die. I did it primarily to show how fundamentally different they are from the 3d6 serfs we know and love. (And also to illustrate that yes, rolling 3d6 straight does look that bad on a character sheet when you're used to 4d6...)
Purists fear not, all such character sheets are forever marked by Hugh's displeasure.

That's HILARIOUS! I never noticed that Hugh's scowling face was watermarked on all the non-purist sheets until a few minutes ago!tovokas wrote:Purists fear not, all such character sheets are forever marked by Hugh's displeasure.
