this deadly 0-level funnel of desperate survival and inevitable doom, your
PCs are trapped within a sorcerer’s dread oubliette, harried by horrors
on every side. The question isn’t whether you can survive, but for how
long. This is a drop-in event. Simply bring your generic ticket to any
session, take the next spot in line, and see whether you can survive one
minute – or one hour! Drop into any of these sessions:
Seminar: What’s New With Goodman Games? This seminar is Friday night
at 8:00 PM (Crowne Plaza, Conrail Stn room, SEM1462141). As some of you
know from prior experience, our con seminars often feature announcements
about new products. At Gary Con we were joined by special guest James M.
Ward to announce our Metamorphosis Alpha deluxe collector's edition. For
Gen Con, we have some exciting announcements planned related to deluxe
hardcovers. And these announcements require not one, but two special guests!
You won't want to miss this seminar
August 4 - Seven Days of Stroh, Day 7: 50% Off DCC #70: Jewels
of the Carnifex We are currently running a kickstarter
for Dungeon Crawl Classics: Peril on the Purple Planet. This is Harley
Stroh’s long-awaited sword-and-planet epic, an adventure of planetary scope
that flings your characters to adventures on a distant world dying slowly
under a weirdling sun. But before Harley Stroh wrote this adventure, he
wrote many others for Goodman Games. For seven days we’ll be spotlighting
some of his prior work, and offering PDF versions at 50% off for these
seven days only. If you’re not already a backer of Peril on the Purple
Planet, reading Harley’s prior work may change your mind. Here then are
the Seven Days of Stroh!
#70: Jewels of the Carnifex: It’s day 7 of the Seven Days of Stroh,
and today is our final spotlight on his work. Concluding with a focus on
Punjar, we come to his first Punjar work for DCC RPG: the level 3 adventure,
DCC #70 Jewels of the Carnifex. At the end of a forgotten back alley, in
the weird and otherworldly marketplace of faiths known as the Bazaar of
the Gods, stands the ruins of a forgotten chapel. Once the cult of the
Carnifex was celebrated throughout the City of a Thousand Gates. But a
band of holy warriors rose against the cult of executioners and torturers,
casting down her signs and scattering her devotees to the winds. The fate
of the cthonic goddess, and – more importantly – her fabled jewels remains
a mystery…until this night. Set amid the sprawling decadence of Punjar,
Jewels of the Carnifex offers low-level adventurers a chance to plumb the
mysteries beneath the city’s soiled streets, explore forgotten crypts lavished
with weird artifacts, and – for the quick and daring – claim the lost Jewels
of the Carnifex!
August 3 - DCC
#53: Sellswords of Punjar: It’s day 6 of the Seven Days of Stroh, and
today we continue the look at his work on the gritty underworld. Harley
continued his focus on the realm of the thief in DCC #53: Sellswords of
Punjar. The rat-ridden city of Punjar eventually became Harley’s playground
for a number of modules, but Sellswords of Punjar was the first. In this
level 1 module originally published for D&D 4E, the PCs encounter the
Beggar-King, who weaves his plots deep within the heart of the slums. Unearthing
rites best left forgotten and offering up sacrifices to the loathsome Lords
of Shade, the Beggar-King's ambitions threaten to unleash a horde of shadow-horrors
upon Punjar's huddled masses.
You and your fellow companions must bring the reign of the Beggar-King
to an end. Your quest will take you from the rooftops of Punjar to its
filthiest alleys, and beneath the streets of Punjar to the fetid heart
of the city, where even the bravest of sellswords will tremble before the
fell secrets of the Beggar-King of Punjar.
August 2 - Crime
Pays: It’s day 5 of the Seven Days of Stroh, and today we look at some
of his grittier work. Anyone who has read Harley’s work over the years
knows of his interest in the gritty underworld. Whether it’s Luxor, Lankhmar,
or his own Punjar, Harley has always found a way to weave the world of
the thief into his work. During the D&D 4E era he was presented with
the opportunity to build an entire sourcebook around this subject. Although
ostensibly for 4E, most of the book is systems neutral and suitable for
any rules system. Crime Pays: A Godfather's Grimoire includes everything
a player or DM needs to bring the grim and gritty underworld into stark
focus in a fantasy world. Forget thieves’ guilds – this is the mafia in
a world of dragons and magic! Form your own band of rogues, make a bid
for master of thieves, and win a king's ransom in jewels...but above all,
don't get caught. This sourcebook includes rules for occupying a neighborhood,
recruiting mobsters, hiring made men, and running your own rackets, as
well as a new stat block system for tracking the stats of your own mob
(respect, infamy, defense, upkeep, and territory).
August 1 - DCC
#28: Into the Wilds: It’s day 4 of the Seven Days of Stroh, and today
we look at another DCC module by Harley Stroh. After the success of DCC
#17: Legacy of the Savage Kings, Harley returned with another exploration-style
adventure in DCC #28: Into the Wilds. This classic cavern complex is reminiscent
of Keep on the Borderlands, but presents a suspenseful plotline that reveals
itself slowly as the heroes progress in their exploration. Published as
a level 1-3 adventure for D&D 3.5, Into the Wilds sends the adventurers
to Wildsgate, a frontier keep beset by a wicked curse and savage foes.
In their battles against bat-riding goblins, savage cannibals, and evil
rebels, the heroes uncover rumors of a lost vault left behind by the infamous
thief Zamuk the Swift. Along the way they meet villagers with hidden agendas,
discover a nefarious scheme, and learn the lore of the Wilds!
July 31 - Frank
Frazetta’s Death Dealer: Shadows of Mirahan: It’s day 3 of the Seven
Days of Stroh, and today we look at a 4E adventure by Harley Stroh. While
D&D 4E certainly went in a direction that not everyone appreciated,
Harley kept Goodman Games true to its roots by writing outstanding adventures
under every rules set. For this licensed project, Goodman Games retained
the rights to write an adventure based around Frank Frazetta’s iconic work
and its comic book interpretation. Harley brought it to life as a level
7-9 adventure. This is your chance to journey through the world of Frank
Frazetta and his vision of Death Dealer!
July 30 - Age
of Cthulhu #1: Death in Luxor: It’s day 2 of the Seven Days of Stroh,
and today we look at a Call of Cthulhu adventure by Harley Stroh. This
was Harley’s first horror work with Goodman Games, and launched the Age
of Cthulhu line. In the age of the pharaohs, a great and unfathomable evil
rose from the murky depths to cast its gibbous shadow over ancient Egypt.
At the cost of his empire, Ramesses III imprisoned the horror beneath the
sands of Luxor, where it has slumbered ever since. In 1924, a team of visiting
archeologists unearthed the last remaining testament of that ancient mystery,
only to unleash a terror from out of time. Now death stalks the dusty streets
of Luxor and a new age of horror is at hand. Can your investigators succeed
where the mightiest of pharaohs have failed? Or will they fall victim to
Luxor's secret past?
July 29 - DCC
#17: Legacy of the Savage Kings: A D&D 3.5 adventure for levels
4-6, by Harley Stroh. This was Harley’s first published work with Goodman
Games, and also features interior art by Doug Kovacs. It is an excellent
exploration-style adventure where the PCs gradually unearth a greater mystery.
For centuries, the Great Swamp has hidden hints of an ancient culture of
barbarian kings. While passing through this miserable bog, the PCs encounter
Stygoth the Damned, a half-dead black dragon driven mad by a mysterious
disease. Delving further, the heroes discover that the disease is tied
to the very swamp itself. A great corruption once infested this place,
destroying the savage barbarian kings and leaving only mighty statues as
their legacy. Now this corruption has returned, and a terrible Witch Queen
is mining the corrupted swamp-earth to produce evil, blighted artifacts.
In order to stop the spread of these evil weapons, the heroes must enter
the ancient caves of the savage kings, put to rest the corrupt legacy of
their downfall, end the disease that scars the land, and then face off
against the Witch Queen herself.

3/31/02 - We just got back from the GAMA Trade Show in Las Vegas.
(Well, we actually got back last week; we just haven't updated the web
site till now!) The show was great. We showed off a preview of the Cretasus
Adventure Guide (which is at the printers now), and everyone loved it!
We've added a new feature to the web site: Broncosaurus
Recs - our collection of small press recommendations for readers of
Broncosaurus Rex. If you like Broncosaurus Rex, you will probably like
these games, comics, and books, too!
2/22/02 - There is a lot in development for Dinosaur Planet:
Broncosaurus Rex, and we've added some sneak previews to keep you tantalized.
First, the Cretasus Adventure Guide is still on schedule for April release.
This volume is a must-have for the Broncosaurus Rex gamer; not only does
it deliver some intriguing background information about the world of Cretasus
and its inhabitants (both human and dinosaur), it also includes prestige
classes for Dino Warriors and Federal Marshals, full stats and background
on the Union ironclads, stats for a horde of new prehistoric beasts, complete
vehicle rules, and rules and background for the alien Scray (who, as you
may know, helped the Union develop their ironclads). Here
is a sneak preview of some of the interior art.
Second, many of you probably caught the sneak preview of Dinosaur Planet:
Broncosaurus Rex in Gaming
Frontiers #1. There will be an original article in Gaming Frontiers
#2 (due out in April) covering the psionic powers of the protoceratops.
The article also expands on the role of the alien Scray in the development
of Cretasus, and spotlights some of their psychic weapons. Here
is a sneak preview of some of the art.
Finally, we have updated a few sections of the web site. About
Goodman Games includes links to the sites of some of our contributors,
and About Broncosaurus Rex now includes
links to several reviews of the game (all of which have been quite enthusiastic!).
